UFC 149 has suffered more damage to the scheduled main card. Top welterweight Thiago Alves is out of his July 21st bout with Siyar Bahadurzada due to injury. MMA Weekly has it:
Sources close to the match-up confirmed Alves’ removal from the card to MMA Weekly on Friday.
It’s unknown at this time what the nature of the injury was, but it’s going to force Alves to the sidelines and out of his scheduled bout against Bahadurzada.
Alves was looking to shake off a late loss to Martin Kampmann at UFC on FX 2 where he controlled the whole fight but got submitted via guillotine in the third round. He is just 2-4 in his last six bouts.
This comes on the heels of Thiago Silva having to pull out of his scheduled co-main event bout with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. The UFC would like to insert Glover Teixeira into the fight, but it doesn't seem like that is what's going to happen for now. The main event bout will see Jose Aldo defend his UFC featherweight title against Erik Koch.
