The news just keeps getting worse and worse for the cursed UFC 149 card on July 21st card. Every single main card bout has now gone though some sort of change now that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has been forced out of his bout with Cheick Kongo and will be replaced by Shawn Jordan. Sherdog has the news:
According to sources close to the situation, Nogueira has not healed completely from the surgery he underwent to repair a broken humerus suffered in his UFC 140 defeat to Frank Mir. Due to lingering effects from that injury, "Minotauro" will be unable to face Frenchman heavyweight Cheick Kongo at the event, which takes place at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.
Taking the Brazilian's place against Kongo will be former Louisiana State football standout Shawn Jordan. Though the pairing has not been officially announced by the UFC, Sherdog.com confirmed on Saturday with sources close to the Jackson's MMA representative that Jordan has accepted the bout.
Jordan (13-3) is a Strikeforce vet that won his UFC debut over Oli Thompson by TKO at UFC on FX 2 in March. It's unclear if the bout will remain on the main card or not, but at this point it seems like they don't have much else to stick on there. Injuries to Jose Aldo, Michael Bisping, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Thiago Silva along with some card shuffling that removed Mauricio Rua have completely devastated this once-promising card. Sorry Calgary.
