John Cofer chose to play Justin Lawrence's game on the feet for too long and he ended up unconscious. Lawrence opened the third round with a thundering head kick that put Cofer out. The finish came at 19 seconds of the round. The first two rounds saw Lawrence mostly control the standup, though he was in danger on the ground at one point late in the second round.
Lawrence went for a side kick early in the first that allowed Cofer to take it to the ground. Lawrence popped up, caught a kick, and ended up on top himself. He allowed Cofer to stand. He landed the hook again and followed up with a right that backed Cofer up.
Lawrence re-established his striking in the second. Cofer shot in for a takedown but couldn't get anything going. Cofer landed a nice kick to the body, but Lawrence's combinations were on point as Cofer slowed slightly. Cofer finally got a suplex takedown with a minute to go and got back mount, but Lawrence popped out and landed a big shot on the ground.
