The August 4th UFC on Fox 4 card is Los Angeles now joins several upcoming UFC events that are suffering from fighters pulling out of scheduled bouts due to injury. The latest casualty is Chad Griggs, who was set to make his first cut to light heavyweight in a bout against Phil Davis. With Griggs injured, undefeated Brazilian newcomer, Wagner Prado, will now take his place and face Davis, according to Prado's management who confirmed the change with MMAWeekly:
An injury has forced Chad Griggs out of his UFC on Fox 4 bout against Phil Davis so undefeated prospect Wagner Prado has been tapped as his replacement.
Prado’s management team at AMR Group confirmed the new fight to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday with bout agreements in place for the August card.
A member of Team Nogueira and muay thai specialist, Prado has finished all but one of his seven career fights, with all of those finishes coming via knockout. "Caldeirao" was also the #1 light heavyweight prospect on Bloody Elbow's 2012 World Scouting Report. In the report, Leland Roling gave this description of Prado's style:
Physically, Wagner appears to be a cross between Mark Kerr, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. and a gorilla. If championships were determined by the size of a fighter's limbs, chest and cranium, Prado would already be wearing gold. With a dozen muay thai fights to his credit, he is unsurprisingly strong in the stand-up department, and is capable of ending any fight abruptly with his savage roundhouse kicks and knees. Prado has done just that in most of his bouts thus far, scoring either clean KO wins or chopping victims down to the canvas to be finished off with heavy ground and pound.
Although it appears he'll definitely hold the striking advantage over Davis, Prado better be working on his takedown defense, as his blue belt in BJJ and noted lack of strong wrestling skills are the weak poinst in his game that Davis will look to exploit.
