Bloody Elbow News Roundup - Anderson Silva Gets Skewered By Pele, Palhares Sick Vs. Belcher

A certain former training partner is not amused with Anderson Silva at the moment.

Welcome to another edition of the Bloody Elbow News Roundup. I'm your host Tim Burke, and we're about to take a wild ride across the internet to see what else happened in the world of MMA today. The best stuff involves Brazilian fighters - namely, Anderson Silva and Rousimar Palhares. But there's plenty of other stuff including a UFC card coming to the United Kingdom, Ronda Rousey's judo friend entering MMA, TUF legends not getting to coach anytime soon, and much more. Let's roll.

We'll start with the UFC pastaweight champion, Matt Serra. He hasn't competed since losing to Chris Lytle over a year and a half ago and will turn 38 in just a few days. Is he retiring? He can't say for sure, but he thinks he'll probably fight again. He's more concerned with student Al Iaquinta at the moment, who fights at the TUF Live Finale this weekend. You can listen to his whole MMA Hour interview over at MMA Fighting.

If you been listening to TUF 1 finalist Stephan Bonnar at all lately, I'm sure you've heard his campaign to try and make himself and fellow finalist Forrest Griffin the TUF Live 2 coaches. But Dana White blew that out of the water with a few simple words at the UFC 146 media scrum over the weekend:

"We usually bring in guys that are champions. Stephan and Forrest, believe me, you guys know I love Stephan and Forrest. We celebrate Stephan and Forrest every day. But it's not going to happen."

Sorry Stephan. To make up for that bad news, I offer Joe Lauzon embarrassing himself as a peace offering. You know you want to watch Lauzon lose a cheeseburger eating contest in Chicago. Don't deny it. Just give in and watch!

After the jump you can read about Rousimar Palhares totally not making excuses for his loss to Alan Belcher at UFC on Fox 3, get some info on the latest UFC card in the United Kindgom, and see a former rival verbally destroy UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Oh, and watch a friend of Ronda Rousey's in action.

Invicta FC has released the full card for their July 28th show in Kansas City, KS. The main event will see Olympic wrestler Sara McMann face off with Shayna Baszler (via Sportsnet). Speaking of the ladies, it's pretty obvious by now that Ronda Rousey is a formidable woman. I'm not ashamed to say that she scares the hell out of me. Well, her close friend and American Judo champion Marina Shafir made her MMA debut this weekend. Here's the video. I'll give you one guess in regards to how the bout was finished. (via Middle Easy)

Rousimar Palhares tried desperately to leglock Alan Belcher at UFC on Fox 3, but was unable to and got TKO'd. Today he talked to Tatame about it and said he didn't feel too well during the fight, but he doesn't want to make any excuses:

"I couldn't do anything, I was too sick. I don't really wanna talk about it so it doesn't sound like an excuse and I'm not taking back his credits", says the fighter. "That's only going to strengthen me and I'll become a champion".

When you get it (the position), you gotta really get it. I tried to repeat it, but I was gassing off, I was not strong enough. It wasn't my day, literally. I was dead, I couldn't move", he said.

Dana White confirmed last week on TUF Live and at UFC 146 that the next UK show would be taking place on September 29th in the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England. Paul Sass and Dan Hardy are expected to take part in the event, which could air on Fuel TV.

Finally tonight, it's all about angry Brazilians. Legendary vale tudo/MMA fighter Jose "Pele" Landi-Jons might not be a name that rings a bell for newer fans, but the former IVC champion has been a beast in the ring and cage for almost 20 years now. The man holds wins over Matt Hughes and Pat Miletich in MMA and had two insane battles with Jorge "Macaco" Patino back in the mid-90's (check out this Kid Nate piece for much more background). He also holds two wins in Muay Thai over UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. And he's not happy with The Spider right now. At all.

The two were teammates at the famed Chute Boxe academy back in the day, and it appears that Anderson wrote something derogatory about Pele in his new autobiography. Well Pele is not someone that lets stuff slide, and the video interview he did for PVT is absolutely scathing. Here are two of the nicer statements Pele makes in the interview:

"Anderson, mark my words, you have no balls. I can tell that just by looking in your eyes."

"Every time I look at you, you chicken out. You're a wussy."

The interview is in Portuguese but has captions. I think you'll find it pretty entertaining (via IronForgesIron)
