We posted yesterday on Brazilian media reports that UFC Middleweight champ Anderson Silva had tweaked his knee in training and would be getting it looked at by a doctor. Naturally this gave most of us heart palpitations given the UFC's terrible luck lately.
Fortunately the champ has been to see his doctor and had some happy news to tweet out to the world:
Gennnteeee my knee is doing very well thank you! , Stay calm day on July 7 will be doing my trabalho.osss
Silva is widely considered the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. He's defended his UFC MW title 9 times since winning the belt from Rich Franklin in 2006 and won 3 non-title fights in that span as well. His closest shave in all that time came at UFC 117 when Chael Sonnen battered him mercilessly for 4.5 rounds and seemed to be cruising to a decision win. Silva came back to land a last minute triangle choke submission and since then the fans have clamored for a rematch.
Sonnen's difficulties with various athletic commissions due to his use of testosterone replacement therapy and the suspensions resulting therefrom. Sonnen has since gotten a therapeutic use exemption from the Nevada State Athletic Commission so cross your fingers, it looks like the fight is still on for UFC 148 on July 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
