What an event! From Dave Herman folding like a $5 chair after being Atomic Butt Dropped by Mark Hunt to Mike Brown's gritty performance against Daniel Pineda to Cain's destruction of Bigfoot to Dan Hardy getting back in the win column in emphatic fashion to Jamie Varner surprising everyone to JDS surprising no one, UFC 146 brought the goods from top to bottom. Dollaway vs Miller was the only bad fight on the card and even that fight had its moments.
The two big stories in our little BECW universe were the introduction of live scoring and the fact that most of us hung out in a separate live post that actually shouldn't have been created in the first place (more on this after the jump). I'd like all of you to please offer feedback on both of these happenings so we can collectively decide what we can do to make the BECW even more enjoyable.
As always, full results & next week's matchups after the jump ...
Notes about the Live PostDamon O originally e-mailed me to say that the Powers that BE (p4p worst pun ever?) had decided we should try doing a separate live post. I forwarded the mail to JDH who confirmed that we would indeed do this. At some point during the week, JDH was contacted and told that the plans were scrapped and that we should try to co-exist with the non-BECW'ers in the front page live post.
As the picking deadline came and went with JDH stuck at 25% for the last hour, I wrongfully assumed that he was tied up somewhere, that his computer had died or that he had been knocked out cold by Arianny Celeste. As I hadn't heard about the change of plans, I went ahead and posted the Live Post. It was an honest mistake but it was obviously my fault entirely. To anyone whose live experience I may have ruined: Sorry.
With that out of the way, let me be the first to say this: I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the BECW Live Post. The addition of live scoring meant that people mostly stopped talking about their own performance and started talking about their team's performance, and with several come-from-behind wins, momentum changes and a couple of matchups that were decided in the final fight (more on this later), the tension was palpable as the main card reached its climax. Once we reach the playoffs, this shit is going to get even crazier and I would honestly give up the front page glory for a live fanpost where I could talk BECW all the time.
In addition to that, I also loved the activity levels. I read nearly every comment, I never had to hold down z to make my way through the post and the banter was great. I missed BV's "what are you drinking" comments and I'm sure there were some great back-and-forths in the main post, but we ended up with the same amount of comments for the entire card as the front page post for the main card only and that was pretty awesome. I love the Bellator/Pro Elite/etc. live posts because you can actually keep up with them. The Zuffa posts are always complete carnage (both good and bad carnage, though) and when you get 100 posts saying "HOLY SHIT" after someone gets knocked out, you (I) sort of lose the community feeling since it's just a bunch of people shouting at MMA.
Anyway, those are my thoughts - let's hear yours in the comment section.
Notes about the live spreadsheet
Once I get a few kinks ironed out, I should be able to get the spreadsheet live around 10 minutes after the picking deadline. And the best part? Once it's set up, anyone can do it. I literally have to click one button to get the scraper to extract all the picks from MMA Playground. When I started feeling the whisky and feared I might pass out before the main card ended, OBP stepped in and updated the spreadsheet. If OBP can do it on homemade 4 lokos, you can too - and since I won't be around in most live posts once the main card starts (and might miss some entirely), I'm going to need someone to help out. I'll let you know if/when this happens.

At the bottom, OBP and his first round pick, -Neil- (Some_Guy on PG) are the main talking points. The top, however, is dominated by overachievers as the top 3 is made up of guys who were picked in the second half of the draft. MJB! (Marc1055 on PG), thuggis and swiftman: take a bow!

In the Helio Division, We Toquinho BRUTALISED Rampage's Cuckolds with an unbelievable 9 scores above average. Meanwhile, Dirty Boxers eked out a much-needed win over the Pickles of Doom, thanks in no small part to T.C. Engel's surprisingly poor performance after two strong events.
In the Kimura division, both matchups were razor-close as Precise Precision mounted a late comeback to take their record to 2-1 while As Real As It Gets are now the only winless team in the league. In the other matchup, Night of the Living Death barely squeezed by Wario as Junior Dos Santos' 2nd round TKO settled it for them. Had JDS finished Mir in ANY other round, Wario would have won the matchup.
It speaks volumes about the division that my team's third-ranked score overall was not enough to win this week's matchup. Kudos to Living Death for betting hard on Darren Elkins and posting some ridiculous scores along the way. We shall meet again!
Last but not least (well, kinda), the Gotch Division featured an epic faceoff between Jon Jones' PR Agency and Off Constantly in what must have been a concerted attempt to see which team could score less points. Off Constantly won that particular battle with their score of 514 points but it is the PR Agency who pick up their first BECW win.
Meanwhile, Beta Males had to work hard to stay unbeaten but eventually came out on top against TIPDOCP. Beta Males are now 3-0 and early favourites for this year's playoffs alongside Night of the Living Death.
Standings
Everything is definitely still up for grabs but Living Death and Beta Males can probably already start preparing for the playoffs barring some sort of complete meltdown. Meanwhile, Randy Couture's Dirty Boxers and Rampage's School of Cuckoldry are actually DEAD EVEN with exactly the same amount of points and wins. Good thing they're facing each other in 5 days!
And once again - in the overall leaderboard, teams placed 1st or 2nd in their division are sorted by their W-L record followed by their number of points. The remaining 6 teams are sorted purely on their total points to decide who gets the wildcard spots.
Next week's matchups
That's it from me for now. Sound off in the comments if there's a particular stat you're interested in.
