Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir Preview

The UFC is bringing an all Heavyweight card to Las Vegas this Saturday night headlined by Junior Dos Santos defending his belt for the first time against Frank Mir.

We are in for a treat this weekend when Junior Dos Santos puts his belt on the line against Frank Mir. This fight could and probably will be a very short one. Many fans have gave Frank Mir little to no chance to win this fight which is absurd and I will tell you why. Any man who is a two-time Heavyweight champion has a chance. Frank Mir is the most dangerous Heavyweight on the mat and he proved that point in his last fight when he broke Minotauro Nogueira's arm in the first round. You can't count out Mir on the feet either, remember when he sent Kongo to the mat with the big left hand at UFC 107 or when he became the first man to knock Nogueira out at UFC 92.

That being said, Junior Dos Santos is a whole different animal. There's no other way to put this: Junior Dos Santos is a killer when he steps inside the octagon. Every single fighter who has stepped in the octagon with him has either woke up with a flashlight in their face or went on a ride to the hospital to make sure their face has no structural damage. He does it with what many consider the best boxing in MMA. We have yet to see the ground game of Dos Santos for two reasons, one, he likes to end fights very early. Two, no one can take him down. His take down defense has looked great from what we have seen. He trains with the Nogueira's daily which has to be an indication that he is no slouch on the ground.

This fight is very simple to break down, Frank Mir needs to get this fight to the ground. Mir can strike and has ended fights with his hands before but Junior's boxing is not to be played with. Frank needs to get Junior down and grab a hold of one of his limbs and do what he does. Every single MMA fan knows exactly what Junior Dos Santos's game plan is coming into this fight. He wants to keep it on the feet and place a large amount of punches on Frank's chin. Junior isn't going to look for take downs, unless he gets in some trouble on the feet which could happen, after all, anything can happen in this sport. Mir isn't going to be shooting double legs on Junior, he will be looking to clinch and look for trips or most likely pull guard. If Mir pulls guard do not be surprised, that is probably his game plan. Pull guard and when Junior tries to stand up go for a leg.

It's hard not to pick Dos Santos to win this fight. Every fight starts on the feet and that gives Junior an advantage over almost every Heavyweight in the world. If Mir can get Junior to the ground whether it be pulling guard or landing a trip then he should be at a major advantage but until that happens he is in Junior's world.

I'm going with Junior Dos Santos via. 1st round knockout at 2:39.

I'd love to hear who you guys are picking, let me know on Twitter: Mattthemmakid
