An injury to surging featherweight prospect, Jimy Hettes, has paved the way for another talented young featherweight to make his UFC debut as a replacement. New York native, Joey Gambino, has agreed to step in for Hettes and face Steven Siler at UFC on FX 4 in Atlantic City on June 22nd, according to a report from StudioMMA.com, which was also confirmed by Siler on his Facebook page:
Undefeated featherweight prospect Jim Hettes’ has been forced to pull out of his scheduled bout against TUF 14 alum Steven Siler at UFC on FX 4, due to an undisclosed injury. Siler will now face octagon new-comer, Tri Star product, Joey Gambino – who is also undefeated. StudioMMA.com confirmed the news today from a source close to Siler’s AMR Management Group.
Gambino's name might be familiar to BloodyElbow.com readers, since he was the #2 featherweight prospect on our 2012 World Scouting Report. The talented wrestler (and former teammate of fellow UFC featherweight, Dennis Bermudez) and ground-and-pound specialist now trains at the famed Tristar Gym in Montreal alongside such notable fighters as Rory MacDonald and Georges St. Pierre. Undefeated at 9-0, Gambino has finished all but one of his fights, that being the most recent one, a decision over Bellator vet, Kenny Foster.
