Daniel Cormier made a statement on Saturday night beating down the former UFC Heavyweight champion Josh Barnett on route to a unanimous decision win. It was the speed, footwork and most of all his Olympic caliber wrestling that put the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix title around his waist.
I'd like to say it wasn't easy for Cormier as I am a fan of Josh Barnett but Cormier made it look very easy. He was never threatened of being taken down or even rocked by a strike. Daniel had his way with Barnett for all 25 minutes the two were in the cage together, he hit him when he wanted to hit him and he took him down when he wanted to take him down. It was the most impressive victory of Daniel Cormier's career bar none but now we are all asking the same question, what's next for Daniel Cormier?
There's a couple options for Daniel Cormier and here they are.
Move to the UFC: This seems like the most logical move for Cormier. I wouldn't give him the winner of Junior Dos Santos and Frank Mir just yet but the winner of Nelson-Herman would be a good first fight, although I wouldn't be surprised if he was awarded the winner of JDS-Mir. The UFC could and should market him to the viewers who don't watch Strikeforce or don't have Showtime before throwing him in the title picture.
Another fight in Strikeforce: Taking another fight in Strikeforce could be a great choice for Cormier as well. It would give him more time to evolve as a fighter and work on his game. The problem is Strikeforce was gutted of all their Heavyweight's earlier this year so the UFC would either have to lend one or Coker would have to sign one. What's Todd Duffee up to lately?
