TRT is a very topical subject with the Lamont Peterson result etc. There was a long discussion recently between Joe Rogan and Chael Sonnen on Joe's show. Essentially the gist of what Joe was saying, and I think Chael agreed, was that TRT should be allowed and that the negative attention is down to a somewhat luddite mentality. I do not understand how people can make this argument, to be honest. Since the first time I heard about Randy Couture and Dan Henderson, I felt it was fundamentally wrong and I believe equates to cheating. I have a few basic arguments for this opinion and would be interested to hear where other people differ on them.
1. It is meant to supplement people with deficient levels and bring them up to normal levels. But people who are athletically disadvantaged in other ways have to compensate whether it be stature or hand-eye co-ordination.
2. If it is meant to bring you up to normal levels, why do the commissions allow a T:E ratio of 4:1 (Nevada is 6:1), according to Victor Conte, the ratio is normally close to 1:1 give or take a bit.
3. The older athletes who take it are essentially not having to pay the trade-off price which normally is due with greater competitive experience e.g. more wear and tear and less ability to train intensely. This is unfair.
