Right now the MMA community is in a great discussion as to who should challenge our heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.
The list of possible contenders is not a very long one.
The problem with this list is that there isn't a single guy that you could characterize as a true fit. Mir and Velasquez are slated against each other, Fedor has a fight coming up June 21th and neither Mark Hunt, nor Fabricio Werdum deserves to fight for the belt.
And Dan Henderson? Sure that sounds pretty exciting but the reality of the situation is this; we are putting Dan (41 and 207 pounds) against Junior (27 and 240 pounds). Sure Dan looked impressive against Fedor, a man who carries most of his weight around his abdominal area, but to put him against the massive 6 ft 4 dos Santos will most likely end up with Henderson landing face first on the canvas after an uppercut.
Enter Jon Jones
Jon has a fight comming up on April 21, against Rashad Evans. Now I'm not counting Rashad out at all, but let's say he wins this fight in the same fashion he won his last 4 fights, without suffering a serious injury, why couldn't he challange dos Santos? Jon Jones took on Shogun in 8 weeks notice, and performed wonderfully. He weighs around 225, I'm sure he would give Junior a run for his money.
Why not Jon Jones?
