So over the weekend I came down with laryngitis or some other respiratory thing or something like that. I also gave it to my girlfriend accidentally but that is not important. What is important is that I am coughing and sneezing and it would be a bit of a jerk move to go to BJJ tonight and get everyone else sick. So with free time and getting bored from studying for a marketing exam tomorrow I decided I should update you mutherfukers on how my training is going.
Anyway, I have been going between 3 to 4 days a week as it is about a 35 minute one way drive for me, and I am hoping to take my first fight before my 25th birthday (April 5th, 2013).
I have been doing BJJ since February and we are working a lot on stuff from half guard and side control, mostly positional stuff, although I learned a really cool kimura from head hip control last week. In addition in early April Daniel Gracie came to work with Warren Stout, my instructor and a Renzo Gracie Black Belt for two weeks, and taught a ton of stuff, literally too much to list here.
My hip flexibility has been improving from BJJ and because of this my kicks are starting to get better as well. I have been working on push kicks and clinch stuff a lot, especially in sparring. My Muay Thai kru really pushes me and does not let up for one second as far as my cerebral palsy goes, but works really well with me. As far as boxing goes I am getting better at striking as a south paw and my cross and shuffle cross are really improving. My head movement is getting better in boxing as well. In all I really love training and am starting to get a lot of attention from my trainers, I believe mostly because of how hard I work. The biggest thing I am finding, and this is surprising, is how rusty my wrestling is. I am going to start getting up early on Saturdays for wrestling practice, because both my takedowns and defense are horrible compared to where I was.
A few other things, if y'all want to start a twitter campaign to get me a nickname start it. Also I am a poor college student so if anyone has ideas for getting more training gear (i.e. shirts, shorts, gis, or sparring head gear) for cheap or free please let me know. I have really fallen in love with martial arts, especially BJJ and Muay Thai, although wrestling will be my first love forever. I only plan on competing in MMA for about 10 years, unless I am a UFC fighter when I turn 35, but I am doing BJJ for the rest of my life. Sorry for this being pretty brief, but like I said, I am still coughing, sneezing and have a fever. If there is anything I can do for BloodyElbow let me know and I will do my best!
