Above is video of UFC Heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem appearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) yesterday for a hearing regarding his failed urine test of March 27th. That was infamously the date of a press conference to promote UFC 146 in Las Vegas where all fighters present were hit with a surprise test. Overeem was the only fighter to fail.
His urine showed a testosterone:epitestosterone ratio of 14:1. The allowed limit in Nevada is 6:1, in many other jurisdictions it is 4:1.
That test failure forced Overeem to remove himself from a UFC Heavyweight title fight with Junior dos Santos at UFC 146. Frank Mir is taking his place in that bout.
Yesterday Overeem appeared before the NSAC with his attorney David Chesnoff and physician Dr. Hector Molina. Molina claimed that he had injected Overeem with a concoction of his own devising that, unbeknownst to Overeem, contained testosterone. Molina's testimony was less than convincing to say the least and the NSAC ruled that they would deny Overeem a license and not consider re-licensing him for 9 months.
Conveniently the 9 month suspension would leave him eligible for the Super Bowl weekend UFC which is traditionally held in Las Vegas.
