Ben Rothwell got blasted by Brendan Schaub, but Rothwell's chin held up and he blasted Schaub right back. Schaub's chin did not hold up though, and he collapsed to the mat after a winging right hook, out cold. One more punch on the ground and Rothwell picked up the improbable TKO victory just seventy seconds into the very first round.
A slimmed-down Rothwell looked to wade inside at the start of the fight, and landed a nice body shot. He also connected with a punch in the clinch. Schaub caught him with a spinning backfist that hurt Rothwell and backed him up against the cage. Schaub came in for the kill and landed a solid right hook, but Rothwell responded with a brutal left hook that collapsed Schaub to the mat. He landed one more punch on the ground, but Schaub was already out. After the referee jumped in, Schaub started grabbing for someone that wasn't even there.
Schaub was trying to shake off a huge setback in his last bout, a knockout loss to legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Rothwell entered the bout with a 1-2 mark in the UFC, most recently dropping a decision to Mark Hunt at UFC 135 last September.
