We're right about to begin a 2 month period where almost every top 25 heavyweight in Mixed Martial Arts today will be competing. Between the level of talent that the this division has reached and how active it's going to be in such a relatively short span of time, this is quite possibly the most relevant and impactful period this division has ever seen.
I waited as long as possible before posting this, so that I could account for any and all fight announcements made prior to UFC 145
April 21st - UFC 145
#12 Brendan Schaub vs Unranked Ben Rothwell
#15 Travis Browne vs Unranked Chad Griggs
May 5th - UFC on Fox 3
#25 Pat Barry vs Unranked Lavar Johnson
May 19th - Strikeforce 40
#6 Josh Barnett vs #8 Daniel Cormier
May 25th - Bellator 70
#19 Cole Konrad vs Unranked Eric Prindle
May 26th - UFC 146
#1 Junior Dos Santos vs #2 Alistair Overeem
- Subject to change, but whoever replaces Overeem, will surely be a top 25-er...and if it's someone from THIS card moving up....then the chances are pretty good of THAT vacancy also being filled by another top 25-er
#3 Cain Velasquez vs #5 Frank Mir
#10 Antonio Silva vs #14 Roy Nelson
#23 Gabriel Gonzaga vs Unranked Shane Del Rosario
#13 Mark Hunt vs #21 Stefan Struve
June 21st - Untitled M-1 Global Event
#11 Fedor Emelianenko vs Unranked Pedro Rizzo
June 23rd - UFC 147
#4 Fabricio Werdum vs #18 Mike Russow
So there you have it, in a matter of 2 months(and 2 days) 18 of the top 25 heavyweights in the world today will be competing. It's crazy to think about the kind of transformation the top 25 chart might undergo in such a relatively short period of time.
