UFC 146: The Heavyweights is still nearly 2 months away, but already the excitement is building. With these guys being heavyweights, some are wondering if this has the potential to be the fastest main card in UFC history. To hit that mark, the five main card fights would need to clock in at a total of less than 19:10. Each fight would have to average out to be 3:50 to match the record.
So, not only would be need most of the fights to have finishes, but they would have to be within the first round. When you start to consider the resume's of those involved, it doesn't become too hard to believe that could happen.
Junior Dos Santos - 14-1
Alistair Overeem - 36-11
Frank Mir - 16-5
Cain Velasquez - 9-1
Roy Nelson - 16-7
Antonio Silva - 16-3
Gabriel Gonzaga - 13-6
Shane Del Rosario - 11-0
Mark Hunt - 8-7
Stefan Struve - 23-5
Cumulative (all fighters) - 162-46
So there you have it, through the wonders of math...we are able to determine that on average, each fight has a 90% chance of being finished finished and a 69% chance of being finished in the first round. Of course, this is just dealing with some raw percentages...anything can happen in MMA. But it seems to me that the chances of the main card being one of the fastest in the record books is pretty good..
