This was mine.
Two aging legends throwing down just to throw down.
I spent the months leading up to this fight actively seeking out as many articles, training videos, and interviews pertaining to it as possible. Of course I do the same thing year round with fights I'm looking forward to, but this one was different.
This was my beloved Fedor Emelianenko coming off of two losses vs none other than the surging Dan Henderson.
Some called it a dream fight, while others called it senseless. There were plenty of angles to look at it from and as always, I especially enjoyed reading everyone's comments here at BE. Particularly ones like "I’m putting my money on a draw by simultaneous thundering overhand", and "I wish they could somehow both win" .
I thought about it so much that I dreamt about. It was a blurry dream involving a Fedor ko.
(Thanks alot Dan for shattering my dreams)
But regardless of who would emerge victorious, I felt that July 30th, 2011 was going to be a magical night simply because Fedor was fighting Henderson. It was like the MMA gods had made the match themselves.
It may seem like a weird fight to choose, with all the awesome fights that happen every year, and trust me, I feel like I intensely anticipate a lot of fights, but Fedor is my all time favorite and since I wasn't watching Pride back when he was competing, I missed out on experiencing the pre-fight anticipation of him in his glory days. Him fighting the great Dan Henderson was close enough to those days for me.
