TUF 15
Week 6 of UFC's The Ultimate Fighter Live featured Joe Proctor representing Team Faber and facing off with Chris Tickle for Team Cruz. After last week, Faber had tied up the competition at 2-2, so the winner here would take the lead for his team. And that lead now goes to Team Faber as Proctor was able to finish Tickle off via rear naked choke towards the end of round 1.
The fight played out much as Urijah Faber felt that it would in the training footage. Tickle came out looking to land heavy shots, and at first had some good success. He found Proctor's chin more than once, but was unable to gain much of an advantage. Proctor used good movement (and a tough chin) to get through the early power.
As the round started to wind down, Tickle also seemed to be losing speed. Proctor was able to take him down, secure the back, and sink in a choke. Tickle fought it off, but Proctor dug it in deep and got the submission win.
Like last week, this was a victory for strong match-making by Faber. Aside from the early surprise upset by James Vick, Faber has done an excellent job matching his fighters up against opponents who are stylistically good fights for them. He did it with Chiesa, and again here with Proctor.
Next week, Faber looks to keep that strategy working, as John Cofer takes on Vinc Pichel. As always, check back closer to fight time for an in-depth preview of the fight.
