Jones April 10, 2012, part two (via PricklyPairStudios)
The question comes in at 6 minutes in. Here is an edited transcript of the response and question:
Interviewer - [W]ould you consider challenging Junior dos Santos?
Jones - *long pause* It's hard to even say because of two factors. First it would be disrespectful of me to just look past Rashad... You know honestly, it is something that I would totally entertain, but at the same time I have so much respect for Junior Dos Santos. He's such a cool dude... If it was someone else I'd definitely go for it.
This is a very interesting potential story in the fall out of 145 and the NSAC's ruling on Overeem. If Alistar Overeem cannot get licensed then that card would face a huge blow. Even if the hardcores get their way and Mark Hunt gets the shot it wont restore the magic that the original fight had. Part of what makes the original fight so exciting is that we're having a collision of champions. Jon Jones vs. Junior Dos Santos would restore that dynamic.
If all the stars aligned it would still be on Zuffa to actually try to make that fight though. They're trying to build Jon Jones and the last thing they want is for Junior to put him on a highlight reel. I doubt they'd want to risk ruining the mystique of a dominant champion. However if Jones does blow through Rashad and is uninjured then I think it would be something that MMA fans would want to see.
