Boom! Pow! Punch, Kick, Wow! -- James Thompson will take on Bobby Lashley on SFL 3 This May.
India's Super Fight League promotion already has two shows in the books. The first card was headlined by a freakshow bout between Bob Sapp and James Thompson, while the second event was headlined by a more legitimate bout in Todd Duffee vs. Neil Grove.
Back when they announced that SFL 2 card that also had MMA veterans such as Alexander Shlemenko and Paul Kelly, I felt that their turn for more "sport-ing" match ups made sense, but it also takes away that guilty pleasure from the complete spectacle that was SFL 1:
I do feel like these legitimate fights are huge step in the right direction as it's really hard to take a bout like Bob Sapp vs. James Thompson seriously, but on the other hand, a lot of people tuned in solely because of the guilty pleasure that comes with a freakshow bout of that magnitude. So to be completely honest, there's a part of me will miss that.
On May 6, James Thompson will make his return to headline SFL 3 against former WWE star Bobby Lashley, and I have to say, I'm seriously happy they found a middle ground in this. It's an appropriate match up for this stage of their careers and while we're getting a legit fight, it doesn't lose that 'spectacle' factor that comes from their reputations.
Let's be honest, people aren't tuning in expecting high-level MMA, and at least this decision doesn't take out the fun part of that SFL experience.
