Why the UFC 145 Prelims are perfect for next Fox card

I have just gotten done looking over some of the UFC's upcoming fight cards. As I was looking over the UFC 145 prelims on FX I was amazed at the potential for everyone one of those fights to be very exciting. The first thought that came to my mind at that point is "This is what their FOX cards should look like".

The upcoming Fox card is filled with fights that are more relevant as far as future title contenders and such, but the top three fights on that card (Palhares-Belcher, Diaz-Miller, Hendricks-Koscheck) are all likely to be full of grappling. That is not what is going to draw in a new audience. After the jump I will further detail why I think they should switch UFC 145 prelims with the next Fox card.

The reason I believe the 145 FX fights are better suited for Fox is that the match-ups are superb. Starting off with Njokuani vs Makdessi, you have two guys who are highly trained strikers who like nothing better than to stand and trade with their opponents. Should be a highpaced striking affair.

Next up is Stephen Thompson vs Matt Brown in what I believe should be a showcase fight for Thompson who is coming off a highlight reel KO. I consider Matt Brown to be a low level gatekeeper for the UFC and I think he will pressure Thompson and make it entertaining, but I expect Thompson to show have some of his high level Karate for the KO win.

Following that is Muttonchops himself Chad Griggs vs Travis Browne in what i expect and hope to be a sloppy stand and bang affair. For whatever reason heavyweights draw more eyes and I fully expect these two to throw down in a knockdown dragout fight.

Which leads perfectly to the main event of Michael McDonald vs Miguel Torres. You have one very bright prospect going against the former long time champion in what should be a highly technical and high paced fight in which these two incorporate all facets of MMA.

Summing it up, I dont think wrestling or grappling will ever be what draws in more eyeballs to the sport. Most people will not understand the brilliance behind submissions and sweeps and such. But one thing almost every potential new fan can understand is two guys laying it on the line and beating the hell out of each other. I think the 145 FX prelims stand a better chance of displaying the Stand and Bang that drew me into the sport and could bring many new fans in than the current Fox card does.
