#172
Event:
Strikeforce Challengers: Gurgel vs. Duarte
Date: August 12
Setting: Pearl at the Palms, Las Vegas, Nevada
Fight: Derrick Mehmen vs. Roy Jones

BE PBP:
Round 1
- Mehmen with a left that lands and Jones with a jab. A few strikes in close by Jones and Mehmen clinches and pushes him into the cage. Huge flying knee by Jones as they separate hurts Mehmen and tries to take the back. Instead he settles for kneeing Mehmen in the face again. Jones has really opened up now and Mehmen looks a bit shell shocked. Mehmen starts running backward and gets clipped but he also takes a low blow. Mehman rests up and comes out to get a takedown. Mehmen spends the rest of the round on top controlling position but not doing much with it. That should be a Roy Jones round for damage in the stand-up but the judges will love the top control from Mehmen.

Round 2 - Jones with a spinning kick and Mehmen takes him down but his eye is pouring blood. Just gushing. Mehmen knows he needs to step up the pace so he is going for it as they're restarted with him on top in half guard. derrick is just staying on top and doing enough work to keep it from getting restarted and Jones just kind of flops around on his back. Mehmen finally stepping up his output and landing more shots from half guard. 10-9 Mehmen.

Round 3 - Jones decides to try to pull guard with a guillotine attempt on a sweaty, bloody Mehmen and ends up on his back. Mehman just moving his arms, not really punching. They're restarted standing up and Mehman asks Herb Dean to wipe his eye, which he isn't allowed to do. Jones jabs him a few times and Mehmen looks for the shot. Jones tries to scramble and gives up the full mount. Mehmen throws a few arm punches, the round ends and he takes the fight 29-28 on my card.

Result: Mehmen UD

Scorecard: N/A
BE Scorecard: 29-28 Mehmen
BV Scorecard: 29-28 Mehmen

Fight in Five Words: Mehmen fucked, went for it.

#171
Event:
M-1 Challenge 26
Date: July 8
Setting: OC Fair and Events Center, Santa Mesa, California
Fight: Kenny Garner vs. Pat Bennett

BE PBP:
Round 1
- Jumping punch by Bennett (not really a superman punch, just a jump and punch). Both guys throwing wild punches with their chins straight up in the air. They're both really just throwing wildly. It's hard to call the action, both guys are landing. Bennett rocks Garner with a punch, Garner comes back and rocks Bennett with a nice shot. Bennett reacts to the punches Garner lands horribly. Garner landing some nice punches and Bennett with a knee that lands. We're starting to see both guys gas. 10-9 Garner for landing the better punches I guess.

Round 2 - Garner comes out and lands a few hard punches, Bennett with a punch of his own and they're back to the clinch with Garner landing to the body. Garner hurts Bennett badly with a series of punches, now a knee and another punch and Bennett goes down. It's over. Kenny Garner wins by TKO (strikes), round 2.

Result: Garner R2 KO (Punches)

Fight in Five Words: Typical awesome sloppy heavyweight slugfest.

#170
Event:
Strikeforce: World Grand Prix Semifinals
Date: September 10
Setting: U.S. Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio
Fight: Evangelista Santos vs. Jordan Mein

BE PBP:
Round 1:
They trade leg kicks but Santos' are landing harder. Nice straight connects for Mein. Santos is finding success with his right leg. Santos tries another which he misses. Mein lands one of his own. These kicks are ridiculous. Neither fight has been particularly active with their hands. Cyborg lands a massive left leg kick which drops Mein and follows up with a combination. Mein comes in and eats a right hook from Cyborg. This is definitely a calculating Cyborg who is beginning to open up with more kicks and punches as the round comes to a close. 10-9 Evangelista Santos.

Round 2: Mein attempts a kick but it's checked. Santos with a kick to the head. Santos with a big low kick and Mein responds with punches. Big counter right by Mein lands and snaps the head of Santos back. Mein misses with a big head kick. Body shot by Jordan Mein. Mein has found his range and he throws a punishing combination to the body of Evangelista Santos. Santos throws a straight right and Mein dodges and then fires back with his own. Spinning heel kick by Santos doesn't land. (Had a power surge and my TV and Internet went out)

Round 3: Okay back with 4 minutes left. Mein is landing punches to the body and head. Santos is out on his feet. He's just elbowing Cyborg in the face and the referee stops it. Cyborg crumbles to the ground.

Result: Mein R3 TKO

Scorecard: N/A
BE Scorecard: N/A
BV Scorecard: N/A

Fight in Five Words: Usual awesome Cyborg fight. HELLBOWWWWSSS!!
