#223
Event:
Bellator 35
Date: March 5
Setting: Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino
Fight: Brent Weedman vs. Dan Hornbuckle

PBP:
Round 1
- Weedman goes for a kick, Hornbuckle catches it and takes Weedman down. Hornbuckle into half guard, then loses it. Hornbuckle going for a triangle. Weedman looks to be bleeding already. Weedman in Hornbuckle's guard, Hornbuckle is doing a good job of holding his wrists. Hornbuckle going for another triangle but hasn't quite got it and lets it go again. They're back up now. Weedman lands a good kick to the body. They clinch against the cage and trade some knees. Weedman throws Hornbuckle, and goes for an armbar. Hornbuckle survives and that's the round. I give it to Hornbuckle, 10-9.

Round 2 - Hornbuckle clinches Weedman against the cage and throws some knees that don't do much. Weedman with some kicks that would be nasty if they would land. Hornbuckle lands a couple of good knees, Weedman throws another kick and falls. Hornbuckle follows him down and takes his back. Weedman turns into it, but Hornbuckle sweeps him. Weedman goes for a heelhook but Hornbuckle doesn't seem worried. They're tied up on the ground while Weedman keeps trying for that submission. He finally gives it up, and moves to side control. Weedman gets full mount. Hornbuckle gives up his back, Weedman goes for the rear naked, but the round ends. I have that one 10-9 Weedman.

Round 3 - They start out trading some good kicks. They clinch, and Hornbuckle again attacks with several knees while Weedman just tries to get loose. They go to the ground and Weedman is working for a kimura, Hornbuckle gets out and takes Weedman's back. Both fighters look tired at this point. Weedman turns, Hornbuckle almost has an arm triangle if he can get into position. He lets it go though. Weedman throws some good shots from off his back, but the round ends. I have that round 10-9 Hornbuckle.

The judges don't agree with me, and give it to Weedman. Apparently the crowd didn't like the result, either.

#221
Event:
Shark Fights 17
Date: July 15
Setting: Dr. Pepper Arena, Frisco, Texas
Fight: Douglas Frey vs. Erik Perez

PBP:
Round 1:
Frey and Perez go toe-to-toe immediately. Frey getting the better of the exchanges as he's using his Muay Thai ability to batter Perez along with his lengthy reach advantage. Perez now landing a few nice blows as Frey opens up. Frey also landing, and Perez is leaking out of his nose at the halfway mark. Perez shoots for the takedown, briefly staggering Frey to the floor. Frey defends, but succumbs to Perez's attempt to gain back control. Perez sinks in the rear naked choke immediately, and it looked tight for a second. Frey turns out of it and into top control. But Perez immediately latches on the arm and transitions to an armbar attempt. Frey escapes, then attempts to latch onto a guillotine choke. It slips out and he's now on his baack with Perez working from the top. Frey scrambles, and Perez takes advantage with his better grappling skills, landing in full mount. Frey eats some elbows, turns his back, and Perez once again sinks in the rear naked choke. Frey squirms free. Perez immediately works to full mount and begins bombing Frey. Round ends. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Erik Perez.

Round 2: Frey lands the better strikes from range early, but his forward momentum puts him right into the clinch with Perez, who brings the fight down. Frey counters and slips his arm underneath Perez's chin, pulling guard and attempting a guillotine. It looked tight for a second, but Perez slipped out, gaining top control from the escape. After a couple of minutes of Perez attempting to work to a better position, Frey escapes to his feet, only to be taken down immediately by Perez into half guard. Perez moves to full mount and begins landing blows to the head. Frey turns to avoid the damage, and Perez clinges to his back while also locking down a body triangle. Perez doesn't seem to have the strength to tap Frey with the RNC, and the round ends with Frey defending. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Perez.

Round 3: Frey glances a few blows of Perez's chin early, but inevitably falls into a close quarters battle with Perez despite having a 6" reach advantage. Sigh. Frey attempts a guillotine, but misses badly. Perez now in top control in Frey's closed guard. Referee stands the fighters back up for inactivity, and the action restarts at center. Frey is visibly tired now, and it looks like Perez should cruise to victory barring a knockout by Frey. Perez presses to the cage and ensures victory with a late takedown with only one minute left. BloodyElbow.com scores the round 10-9 Perez.

Result: Perez UD Frey

He finally gets it and moves to half guard easily. Chandler can't pass, and Woodard gets up. Chandler swings, then goes for another takedown and gets it. That's the round. 10-9 Chandler.

Round 2 - Chandler comes out a little slower here, and Woodard is just backing up. Woodard finally starts landing a couple of shots, and then Chandler shoots. Woodard gets him with a good knee, and they're standing again. Chandler gets a takedown, but he's not nearly as active on the ground this round. He's controlling but that's about it. Now he has Chandler's back. Chandler is turning and going for a single, but Woodard is still on him. Woodard has both hooks in and Chandler can't shake him. Woodard goes for the rnc but can't sink it. And the round ends... tough one. I'd say 10-9 Woodard.

Couture needs to do more than simply have the back, he is getting beat up.

Round 3 - Watson manages to work from top position early in the third round but Couture with a very weird looking sweep and ends up on Watson's back again. Couture transitions to mount again now throwing some punches instead of just looking for position and submissions he can't finish. Fight: Chris Lozano vs. Douglas Lima

PBP:
Round 1:
They touch gloves and get to establishing range. Lozano makes the first move and Lima responds. Nobody's landed anything et. Lima lands a left jab as Lozano comes in. Lima jab again and Lozano chases with a right hook that misses. Lima catches a kick that manages to ding his cup and they separate. Lima landing while evading Lozano's wilder strikes. Lozano takes advantage of great timing and a slip by Lima to try and mount more offense, but Lima fights his way back to the feet and chases. Lozano evades and both fighters look a bit touched up. An exciting pace, but not a ton of accuracy thus far. Lima with a good teep and jab combination, being the aggressor against the countering Lozano. The jab still landing for Lima and a flurry by Lima mostly connnects. They clinch and Lima delivers a knee to the thigh of Lozano. Lima takes Lozano down from the clinch and Lozano works his way back to the feet. Lima has a hook in and is maybe looking to take the back of the bent-over Lozano. Stalemate. Lima looks to get the better of the wild action to end the round. Lozano being very vocal as they break. I score it 10-9 for Lima.

Round 2: Lozano misses with a high kick, but lands a hesitant roundhouse kick to the body. Lima evading mostly thus far. Lozano picking it up and landing body kicks as well as punches to the circling Lima. Lozano landing better and the fight seems to have shifted to a boxing match with occasional kicks thrown in by Lozano. Lima hunting a counter left and lands one, but is chased away by Lozano. Lima lands a couple of clean, but lighter punches on Lozano's face. Body punch for Lima while Lozano lands a let jab to the head. Lima lands a gigantic right overhand to Lozano and Lozano is out! Lima took a very light jab, walked through it and landed a right straight exactly on Lozano's button. WHOOO! Bellator always delivers a highlight reel moment and this might be it for Bellator 53.
