Rumor: Nick Diaz is going to Fail Drug Test

My friend has a subscription is Dave Meltzer's site and was listening to Observer Radio this morning. On the show, they were talking about that the rumor is Diaz is going to fail his drug test, obviously for weed. They said it took him over 6 hours to provide a urine sample after the Condit fight. This would make a lot of sense for the reason that the Diaz camp has not jumped all over the opportunity to sign up for the Condit vs Diaz 2 rematch. Thoughts?

What’s wrong with that? Most the major stories on here come from Dave Meltzer and that website.

nice

but seriously, all he did was have a brainfart and write ‘is’ instead of ‘to’.

Agreed

But missing the mistake and then not noticing it again when it shows up in the comments makes it harder to defend

No it doesn’t. The comment made it sound like he was “wowing” because it referred to a professional wrestling site. Paythefighters is right, brainfart. I love that a MMA forum is now the grammar police.

As someone who has passed drug tests while violently high on weed I can tell you

when you are using a masking agent sometimes you need to hit a window between when you took the masking agent and when you pee.
Just a theory, Diaz may not have done the same thing I did, but there you go.

Crazy idea

Maybe he smoked weed after the fight on purpose he was so mad? Seems like the sort of batshit crazy logic he might go for given he was retiring and all.

it’s not a big fine, but there’s still a fine involved, so I don’t think his team would let him do that.

Ummmmm no one "lets" Diaz do anything

Diaz does his own thing.

Have they developed the test method yet

That can distinguish when someone used pot? Alcohol, for instance, you can narrow the window on. That’s always been my biggest issue with testing for marijuana: you can’t tell if the results indicate the person was under the influence during the time that was relevant (in my case, at work, versus at home).

I don’t smoke pot, but I’m guessing it has some pain nullifying effects? So, I’d argue that being under the influence of marijuana during a fight would be an unfair advantage. Didn’t Leben get suspended for Oxycontin? I’d assume the Oxy would be banned for similar reasons to pot.

Nick has to know that there is a urine sample to be given at the end of a fight…I’d think even Nick would know not to blaze until that business was taken care of.

Not exaxtly a pain killer

I couldn’t imagine anyone using weed to try to increase pain tolerance during a fight. Then again, a few mistyped google searches can bring up all kinds of shit I never imagined before, so who knows.

Joe Rogan talks about weed improving his BJJ, so I guess it’s possible to use it to enhance your fight game. But using it as a numbing agent doesn’t seem likely.

If it was Nick that popped hot, my completely uninformed guess would be that he had smoked a week or so before the fight while kickin’ it. Who knows.

As far as I know, they can’t tell how long ago you smoked. Only the amount in your blood. Here in Germany it’s all fucked up. You can get pulled over and be piss tested and lose your license for smoking a few weeks ago.

Pot and Oxy usage arent about what happens in the ring

The athletic commission isnt really testing for pot or oxy as far as ‘being high’ during the fight, or increasing pain tolerance. THey are saying that pot slows your brain down, especially after long periods of usage. Therefore you are slow and arent protecting yourself properly, so this isnt a PED issue, its a fighter protection issue. Of course that all bogus, it means nothing. AS said earlier in this discusison, you cant tell when someone smoked, so the commission is choosing to legislate how fighters act outside the ring. ONly pot stays in your system up to 30 days. These guys can eat pounds of pills, meth and coke as long as they clean up 3-7 days before any tests. For the few that do get prescreened randomly, they are given usually several days to provide a sample. That doenst help the potheads, but the coke heads are psyched. OXy is a bit different. They are testing for that as even advil and other over the counter prescriptions are required to be declared. If Leben had a doctor tell the UFC that its required treatment he wouldnt be in trouble at all, but he ‘neglected’ to mention to the UFC.
