Diaz vs. Condit 2 should be more exciting, and how can you complain about 2 top 5 fighters fighting each other.
But on the other hand, Diaz had his shot and lost, fair and square.

3 things...
1. Happy about the immediate rematch. Make the rematch a 15 rounder just in case.
2. The San-stache need to stay.
3. Did Arianny get new jugs?? They seem bigger.

1. Just incase Diaz the marathon runner needs an even bigger advantage 2nd time around?
What a joke.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
Daiz sure was running a marathon, chasing after Carlos “The Running Man” Condit. That isn’t why the rematch needs to happen though. It needs to happen because no matter what you say, the decision created quite a stir with fans, fighters, commentators, media…if it was as clear cut as you say, Dana wouldn’t have caved in. If you are so confident Carlos won, then you shouldn’t take issue with him “winning” again.
Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo
by ANance on Feb 8, 2012 6:51 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
You definitely missed the big picture here bud
Dana doesnt give two shits how close the decision was, All he gives a shit about is getting a second chance at making the big bucks fight that is GSP vs Diaz. If Diaz had of won his own management clearly stated they were willing to wait 9 GODDAMN MONTHS to fight GSP but they lose and now they want an immediate rematch? Do you think if that decision had of gone Diaz’s way that this rematch would still be happening? Hell fucken no.
And im not confident Carlos won, HE DID FUCKING WIN! That is 100% fact, Dont believe me? Look it up! lol
Why the hell should he have to put his belt on the line just because Diaz threw a tantrum? First he rants about being hard done by then mini retires, Now all this bullshit “He’s greasing with water” excuses on top of the ignorant nuthugger Diaz fanbase crying “He ran away the whole fight” when all he did was step off at 4 or 7 o clock and countered the man coming forward like they teach in yellow grade beginner muay thai then reset in the centre of the cage.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
The first thing Condit’s management stated was he’d wiat 9 months as well. He changed his mind. Who’s to say Nick Diaz of all people would’ve stuck to waiting?
And why should Condit put his belt up? Cause he’s the de-facto-champ now. Wasn’t it consensus that the champ has to defend against whoever the promotion deems the most viable challenger? Well, seems like that is still Diaz.
I agree that another challenger like Hendricks would be more interesting to me as well. But your argument doesn’t convince me it absolutely shouldn’t be Nick Diaz.
"A belt only covers two inches of your ****and the rest you need to back up on your own." Royce Gracie (allegedly...I just read it somewhere and thought it was cool for my sig!)
As stated by Malki Kawa on January 30th, 2012
“And if and when he wins this belt, if [the UFC] wants to put him back out to fight again, Carlos is going to fight again and defend his belt against anyone who challenges him. We’re not going to sit around and wait for anyone, not Georges or anybody. If there’s fights out there, Carlos wants them.” Source website withheld due to likely punishment for endorsing rival MMA website.
Im not arguing the fact that Condit has to put his belt back up, What im arguing is whether or not Nick Diaz is the most worthy recipient of such a gift given his failed bid at attaining said belt. The welterweight division is one of the deepest divisions in MMA and a rematch against Ellenberger(presuming he wins against Sanchez) makes alot more sense to me. Even Hendricks after one more fight against a Top 5’r would seem more deserving then a guy coming off a loss albeit a close one like Diaz.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
Changing your mind BEFORE the fight holds alot more weight to me
Anything after the fact is usually 75% bullshit… Kinda like saying “Oh i got injured in training camp” or “I had a really bad weight cut” right after you get your ass kicked.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
You do realize virtually every fighter out there has gone on record saying they think Diaz won , right? And they thought Condit ran? Duke Roufus, for example, went on record saying " looks like I gotta train my guys to run like a bitch or hold guys down, that’s apparently how you win fight in the UFC!!"…..and Duke Roufus has no connection to Diaz or any reason to care? If you next response is “so??? I, Chin Check, clearly have a more valid opinion on MMA then Duke Roufus!!!”….then I don’t know what to tell you, bro.
by Hutchy on Feb 8, 2012 8:03 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
You mean half the Strikeforce roster and other fighters that have recently trained with the Diaz's?
Hardly impartial now arent they?
And if all Duke Roufus has to offer is “OMGZ Condit is a bitch, All he did was run” then he has nothing to teach me as he fails to grasp the fundementals of footwork and effective countering… Maybe that is why all his main fighters are either leaving and winning(Barry) or failing spectacularly(Pettis, Meathead).
I never said i knew more then anyone so please refrain from putting words in my word, thanks :)
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
Ok, so just so I am perfectly clear, you are saying that you, Chin Check, have a clearer perception of what happens in a cage then the following fighters and trainers:
Royce Gracie, vitor, Anderson, mayhem, munoz, lindland, Hendo, Ronda rousey, jens pulver, pat miletich, Josh Neer, Joe lauzon, cung le, ellenberger, Duke Roufus and bas rutten
I just want to make sure I am clear on this. All of those fighters have stated they believe Diaz won, and most scorned Condit’s stick and move strategy. I just want this on the record: Chin Check, who has never set foot in a cage, has more collective knowledge of MMA then that list of fighters (one of which is a current Strikeforce fighter, Ronda Rousey).
Pettis and Meathead are failing spectacularly? I didn’t know that losing one fight each to top 10 fighters was failing spectacularly. So that statement alone tells me you aren’t using your head and that you’re just lashing out against anyone who disagrees with you.
About the rematch. I would never call Condit a bitch or criticize him for his strategy, getting into a fire fight with Nick Diaz is never a good idea and anyone calling Condit a bitch is an idiot. but what I do have a problem with the judges rewarding the strategy. On top of that the score cards for the fight were idiotic and all over the place. Clearly the fight wasn’t as cut and dry as each side is making it out to be. The fact that we are still discussing the fight shows you how controversial the decision was.

I will happily support the rematch...
… if it’s a fight to the death with no breaks between rounds
GTFO with that rematch shit
Condit won fair and square and now he has to prove himself again to a sore loser who packed up his toys and refused to play after he lost a decision that everyone except his yes men corner and nuthuggers could see coming from a mile away?
This is the same guy who’s manager even came out and said “If Nick wins we’re waiting for GSP!” and now wants an instant rematch?
Who’s the real fighter now? The guy who was going to wait till November to fight or the guy that was the underdog, Came out and put a beating on his opponent and won only to be strong armed into a rematch he doesnt want because his boss knows that the guy who beat will sell more PPV’s and make him more money?!! Such bullshit.
I feel sorry for Condit and the shit he has to put up with all because of one loud mouth 209’r that cant back up his mouth.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
because his boss knows that the guy who beat will sell more PPV’s and make him more money?!!
Well, yeah, that’s pretty much exactly why it’s happening. Welcome to capitalism?
I mean yeah it does kind of suck that Diaz can talk his way into a rematch like that, but it’ll be good from a sporting and entertainment standpoint. Get to see more of what was a very close fight and also get to see more classic Diaz oratory. It’s great.
I just feel disgusted for Condit
Diaz put up a valiant effort no doubt, Shit i had a $160 bet riding on him winning but the rounds 1 and 2 are arguable for either fighter, 3 & 4 and Condits and the 5th is the only round i can even see Diaz taking semi convincingly and even then im not sure that him getting Condit’s back and failed submission attempts warrants dismissing the 3 minutes of effective counter punching by Condit beforehand.
So thats 3 rounds that could have gone either way and 2 rounds that i easily hand to Condit. Hardly as close as some Diaz NUTHUGGERS would have you believe and all venom has been taken out of Diaz’s bad boy facade for me after watching Condit stare him in the eye, Dismiss his immature schoolyard bullying and proceed to dissect Diaz punch by punch.

The UfC was founded to answer the question of who is the best fighter. It pits two people againist each other until one reaches a point where he/she wishes they had not accepted the aforementioned challenge. Hence they were no time limits in early mma. Judges weren’t necessary because the participants both knew who won and lost. I understand the importance of modern day rules and regulations and support their existence for the most part. What is a shame is when a fighter uses those rules to earn a victory without proving he is the better fighter. The term "better fighter" meaning a guy who engages in a fight and knows the only way out is to stop his opponent, have that opponent quit, or their corner stop the fight. With time constraints decisions are inevitable, but when a fighter abandons trying to actually finish his opponent and his game plan is to rely on "time" to stop the fight he does an injustice to the true essence of the sport and all it’s founding fathers.
I dont care how many finishes he has last night Condit used the system to try and outpoint Diaz. Some call it "a great game plan", but he didn’t prove to be a better fighter. Many people including professionals think he ran, manipulated the rules to win a points match (not what the sport was founded for), or didn’t try to engage to finish.
Best advice I never heeded: Don't read the bottom of the internet.
by Harley hooper on Feb 8, 2012 8:28 AM EST up reply actions
You do realise the forefathers of the UFC were the biggest culprits of using time as a weapon right?
They basically used their BJJ as a way of stifling their opponent for extended periods of time until they were too gassed to defend anymore or continue, Basically an old school no time limit version of lay and pray. It wasnt until more aggressive Gracies like Rickson and Carlson came along that they actually started hunting for the finish.
BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.
Correct, if a person gassed for whatever reason they lost. Very much like a real life fight. Knees to the head of a grounded opponent, soccer stomps, and other modern rules were non existent. Fighters wanted to and could hurt their opponents. There were no rules to rely on. Just one’s skills and their corner to stop the fight if they were hurt to bad. I understand the need for modern rules, but if a fighter uses them to try and win points and doesn’t actually fight to prove he/his team is more dominant, then that fighter will be called out by colleagues, as was the case with Condit.
Best advice I never heeded: Don't read the bottom of the internet.
by Harley hooper on Feb 8, 2012 9:38 AM EST up reply actions
And hopefully someday soon the AC’s get together and define the rules of judging to adapt with modern MMA so the sport can grow.

But I also said that the fight was very close and that any score from 49-47 Condit to 48-47 Diaz was reasonable to me. When you got a fight that splits opinions so much, a rematch makes sense, I wasn’t clamoring for it and would have liked to see both guys in other fights but I’m perfectly fine with the rematch.

whats gonna be funny/unfair...
… is that if Condit loses the next decision, they will give Nick GSP right after, rather than keep GSP waiting. And then possibly, if Nick wins, Condit can have his rematch; if GSP wins, I wonder if they will be nice enough to give Condit a go, since Condit would have been coming off a loss to someone other than GSP. I suppose you could have Condit fight someone he can beat (while Nick gets GSP, perhaps on the same card), to keep him busy and get him a W, before he gets GSP…
No way there's another rematch after that
Just like Frankie Edgar would not have gotten a rematch had he lost against BJ in the second fight.

Doubtful considering Condit isnt a money cow like Diaz
Its all about the Benjamin’s.

Oh it definitely won't happen
If it were a true sport it would but since it isn’t there is no way it happens.

Not unless Condit starts taking "Smacktalk #101" lessons taught by Muhammad Ali, Assisted by Chael Sonnen and Deputy Assistant Ronda Rousey

Guys...
Keep in mind Carlos seems to have had the opportunity to wait for GSP, and CHOSE NOT TO. I scored the fight for Carlos, as I don’t rate “aggression” highly in the criteria when it delivers no damage… Carlos scored far more strikes and even the amount of damage to the guys’ respective faces was in his favor at the end. I’m not sure how anyone could score it for Diaz, but everyone sees the criteria differently.
But really, if Carlos agreed underfinancial and emotional pressure to accept a rematch, there’s no need to go “oh poor Carlos, it’s not fair that Diaz complained and got a rematch” etc. He’s a big boy, he and his management team and probably his family collectively decided this is the best path, and I think he’ll get a sweet payday plus the opportunity to doubly prove his dominance over Nick.
Fat paycheck + main event on Fox = win for Carlos Condit,
the opportunity to silence his detractors is the cherry on top. And with the wide array of scores for the fight he didn’t “prove his dominance over Nick;” he got the nod in a close decision, but that’s an entirely different matter.

This is a guy who cried when informed of receiving a title shot against GSP
And every MMA fighters dream is to become the UFC champion, IMO No matter of money would be worth forfeiting your shot at fulfilling that dream.
But like they say, Every man has his price….

I bet he cried too when they agreed on the price though ;)
Let’s not act it’s a bad deal for Condit if they made him an offer that he felt made this worth his troubles.

I just hope the benefits outweigh the drawbacks
Because he pulled out a career defining performance against a ultra tough and game opponent like Diaz and asking him to do it again in such short notice may be a bridge too far even for an athlete like NBK.

I'm not one that thinks it is unfair
If Condit chooses to do so then fine. What would be unfair to me is Diaz winning a close contested decision and Condit not getting a rematch. Looks like Diaz is being Diaz so it may not happen anyway but if it does I hope Condit wins. At least give me a clear win for one of them.

I just hope Condit beats him in a more dominant fashion
That way his fanbase can finally STFU and get ready for Nick’s next run in Strikforce or Bellator lol
Altho Askren and Hieron are over at Bellator so he might not be too keen on that second option hahaha

Few things
Malki is a piece of trash, i knew he was squashing hopes prematurely, Condit is a warrior and the final word came out of his mouth, not Malki.
The only art Britney is good at is the art of being horrible at art.
so stoked for Condit vs Diaz 2. Curious to see what the odds would be.
I am willing to test myself against the toughest fighters in the world, in front of hundreds of thousands or even millions of fans, over and over again. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I always come to fight. I've been doing this for the past fourteen years, and I have at least a few more strong years left in me. What have you done in the past fourteen years other than act like a moron on this forum and hang on Anderson's nuts? - Dan Henderson.
Malki did what he had to do
Like Cesar Gracie, he’s getting paid to utter bullshit all the time to maneuver his client in a favorable position.

Didn't think Condit would take the rematch
he must be making Anderson Silva money for this
Main Event on FOX as WW Champ, I'd imagine he'll make bank on sponsorships
Together we are Ruining Your Special Night. Twice.
Didn't know it was on FOX
At least that’ll mean it’s free
I don't think it's confirmed, but Fox 3 needs a main event
and someone mentioned something about both Diaz brothers fighting on the same card.

Nice
Now Nate can’t yell over Nick’s boxing coach like a fucking Florian.

It's an educated guess on my part
as it makes sense as far as scheduling goes and I don’t think the UFC would put a FOX card featuring Miller/Diaz and Johnson/Barry as the feature attractions. 146 would also make sense scheduling wise and because nothing’s booked, but I don’t know how many people would put up another $60 for Diaz/Condit II when the first fight was a bit of a let-down relative to its lofty expectations.
Together we are Ruining Your Special Night. Twice.
And obviously featuring GSP's next opponent on national tv would be huge
Even though Diaz lost, I’d say things
turned out better than anyone could have imagined for the UFC

Agreed
With all the happens in the sport and the variables involved, the UFC is constantly changing marketing and strategy. When there is a discussion/uproar about a fight such as the one with this one they sit back and figure the best way to capitalize. They can’t lose when controversy arises.

Dana said he thought Condit won, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t thinking re match from the beginning. He was smart enough to not say anything until it was discussed within the company and it would have been disrespectful to Condit and his team. Dana waited for the uproar to peak and the UFC made their move.

I think it's warranted
and a nice cash cow event. I posted immediately after the fight that I wanted to see another go-round. I see this as a Frankie-Gray thing, where the decision was controversial enough to warrant a rematch.
I can't be the only one
That is tired of these constant re-matches just because DW wants them. Oh Dana thought Shogun won the fight, re-match. He didn’t think Machida won against Rampage, so, no re-match. Dana thought Diego won vs Kampmann, so no re-match. What a bunch of BS.
Probably why I hesitate to call this a sport and rather call it a “spectacle” like Shamrock did. Seriously.
Dana thought Condit won.
But i agree with the whole “spectacle” thing, Its getting out of hand… Entertainment is taking presidence far too much as the sport grows more and more.

I remember many people saying “well shit happens, deal with it”
and now the rematch is happening and some people feel sorry for condit?
all i gotta say is the same thing that you guys have been saying; deal with it.

So...
Are they rewarding Diaz with a rematch because he couldn’t change up his gameplan mid-match? That seems like a strange thing to reward a guy for…
and emo quitting

Hey look at what I did vs Hey look at me!
Pictures after the jump just made me realize how boring Arianny really is.
B. Palmer tweets pictures showing art she has created of herself and for her fans. “Hey, look what I just did”.
Arianny tweets pictures of her sitting by a pool. “Hey, fans, look at me sit in this water. Aren’t I beautiful”.
What a boring empty head. The only time I want to see her in a tweet again is if it signed by Chael Sonnen.
Palmer broke up with Cowboy the day before Valentine's Day?
Ffffuuuuuu…. that’s rough for him.
