True story

Last week me and a few of my coworkers were out at a bar in the whitest town in Ohio. I got our black buddy to yell “Where all the white women at?” He said he received the dirtiest look he’s ever seen from one of said white women.

In a completely unrelated note, he (our DD) got pulled over before we even left the parking lot….

You can have my man card

After reading all the cheering for Condit’s fight performance with Diaz, I don’t want it anymore. I’m moving up from Man to Demigod.

No, you're not drunk. I am this good-looking.

I’m not going to put too much stock in a guy that got suplexed and choked out by Charlie Valencia beating a guy that fought for the bantamweight belt. Sure he’s gotten better, but Johnson’s been on a much more impressive run.

I'm not familiar with McCall by any means

But DJ has been competing with the elite of the BW division and I have to say I favor him here against pretty much anyone.

I like this card a lot.

Leaning towards Alves in the ME. He’s got that power and Kampann gets hit too often. Flyweights are going to be bananas. I’m so psyched for that division. Hopefully once they kick it off they can add as much talent as possible so we can get a more structured division.

That kid who was complaining about Australia getting a crappy card is kind of dense.

It is crappy in comparison to the last 2 events held in Australia!

I know its not a numbered event which ofcourse effects the card quality but the Alves vs Kampmann would barely have made the main card of 110 or 127 let alone headlined it.

Just because you are pumped about the flyweight division it doesnt mean that anyone that isnt is “dense”, All 4 fighters have zero pulling power or name recognition and to go from main events like Big Nog vs Velaquez or BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch to Thiago Alves vs Martin Kampmann is just insulting to all us fans down under that paid our hard earned money helping the UFC shatter merchandise and sellout records.

Basically, Zuffa gave our card to Japan and im fucken pissed about it.

I really dig this card. Whoever is complaining about it is stupid and spoiled, because Sydney gets a card every year and I’m lucky if they come to Memphis or Nashville every couple of years. I would have killed to have this show in Nashville last month.

Alves vs. Kampmann will be a great fight (maybe put the winner against Nick Diaz for a contender spot? unff), the flyweight tourney should be fun (and I will laugh my ass off if the finals end up being McCall vs. Urushitani), and all of the other fights look solid. Everyone who was impressed with Lavar Johnson a few weeks ago, look out for Shawn Jordan, because Jordan smashed Johnson when they fought a few months ago.

Also, isn’t Urushitani at like +1000 or something like that? That’s crazy. Maybe if Urushitani was fighting Jose Aldo or something that would be appropriate, but Joe-B Wan Kenobi is coming off of two close fights with Loveland and Wineland and is cutting to flyweight for the first time.

I laugh when American fans compare a lack of UFC events in their city/state to the number of UFC events in another country. Over 50% of tickets sold to previous Sydney UFC shows went to people who live in other states. Somebody living in Perth is on a plane for four hours to get to Sydney. They’re also paying insane prices to attend. This card has only sold about 10,000 tickets and it’s already doubled the record for gate attendance for Fight Night cards.

If you live in Tennessee then there’s many nearby opportunities to attend UFC events in other places. If somebody in Australia doesn’t like this card then the nearest UFC event they can attend requires twelve hours and a visit to Japan for 144. Otherwise it’s an 18 hour trip to California.

by rabrown on Feb 8, 2012 6:27 AM EST up reply actions

Oh boohoo you have shows circulating around numerous places in your country several times a year

Not to mention UFC 107 in Memphis which was main evented by a title shot between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez and lets not forget Strikeforce:Nashville that had not 1, not 2 but THREE title shots all in one night.

Meanwhile us fans down in Australia have one show a year or the choice of flying hours across the pacific and multiple time zones to even have the chance to catch more then one live show every 12 months.

GFY!

BJ Penn and Shogun Rua fan for life.

This card is going to be a ton of fun

Alves-Kampmann? Yes please. That should be one of the more intriguing striking matchups we’ll see this year. Flyweights? I’ll take a double helping, thank you. I’m not sure why everyone’s sleeping on McCall – I’m a huge Mighty Mouse fan, but McCall’s not an easy out.

Great free card

four man flyweight tournie opening round, Court, and Alves vs Kampmann

That is very very solid for a free event.

Also, I’m thinking Court McGee wins, I think Kampmann is finally getting his sh!t in proper order and doing what he needs to do to win fights…and I think he’s resurging while Alves is sliding.

As for the tournie, that’s tough to say…I think I would like the ‘look’ of the guys in the final to be on good win streaks.

Benavidez is on a 3 fight win streak, Urushitani(I love that name) is on a 5 fight win streak, McCall is on a 4 fight win streak. So nothing against Johnson, but he is coming off of a loss…I think I’d rather see any of the other 3 guys become the champ.

Also, crazy facts, 135 champ Dominick Cruz is the only man to ever defeat Benavidez, is one of two men to defeat Johnson, and is one of two men to defeat McCall.

Cruz gets so little respect for what he’s done.

It's pretty crazy

That Cruz has essentially cleaned out the division (with the exception of Barao), yet he gets no love as a top pound-for-pound guy. I don’t care for his style at all, but it’s hard not to respect his accomplishments.

Well…the way you said that, it kinda takes something away from Cruz. He’s built his resume on beating natural flyweights when you say it like that.

Sad thing is

Two of those natural flyweights were able to shoot into the top 10 of that division.

Well, in their prime streaks, Wanderlei and Fedor beat a lot of guys that weren't really fit for that weight

Fedor has wins over guys like Ricardo Arona and Renato Sobral, Wanderlei fought Sakuraba 3 times…those are just off the top of my head, but I’m sure there is more.

I mean, it’s not his fault some of the guys might be better suited for flyweight.

He’s still beat Urijah Faber, who as much as I dislike him, is one of the very best of all time below 155. He was the first to take out Bowles, he handled Jorgensen…I don’t see any of those guys going to 125 any time soon.

I try to stay away from the ‘over-undersized’ thing…if they make the weight and beat a lot of other guys who make the weight, it’s all fair.

I look at raw numbers, how many guys have beaten the guys the champ has beaten? How many guys have the champion’s challengers beaten themselves? How many defenses does the champion have?

I like the sort of raw numbers that take out the subjectivity. Also, I believe out of all of the current champions, Dominick Cruz’ opponents have the higest winning percentage.

This is going to be the 200th UFC event

Including non-Zuffa cards.

100th UFC event was UFC 78, 150th was UFC 112, neither one of the previous cards I mentioned was particularly memorable….hopefully #200 will be good.

I'm curious

What does everyone think of Court McGee? It seems fairly clear to me that he’s never going to crack the top 10 at 185, but I can’t tell if that means he’s going to end up as a high-level gatekeeper or a middle-of-the-road kind of guy.

Solid skills all around in an historically weak division with what seems to be an incredibly high work ethic

I’d say he peaks about top 15 if handled correctly and settles between there and top 25. He’ll be successful as a fighter but never truly break out.

Difficult to overstate

Just how bad MW really is; the top 25 is filled with solid veterans, with very little exciting talent on the way up. You’ve got Weidman, Rockhold, Paul Harris, and maybe Belcher, but things could get pretty thin in the next couple of years. Based on your characterization, McGee fits right in.

I cant wait for this card

I hope Kampmann can get back into the title hunt, as his skill set is so diverse I think he gives anyone a tough fight IF he fights to his strengths.

I will admit I dont know much about McCall or Urushitani. But love for Benavidez means that I’m gonna assume he just crushes his opposition between his quads. I think people forget just how close his rematch with Cruz was.
