What a scumbag. If he says he doesnt care about the DQ I hope the commission suspends him long enough to make him care.
Reports from Sermon’s family are that Sermon suffered serious injuries from the kick and will need surgery.

Holy shit… looking into it further and it appears this video is from the same event as the video with the 2 guys falling out the cage door posted yesterday. Crazy

I like it.
If your gonna make a mockery of the rule then you get kicked in the face.
Too many fighters “play the game” fuck that shit, this is fighting.

There is using rules to your adavantage and there is making a mockery… two completely different things.
This guy had 16 (amateur) fights to his record and knew exactly what was he doing and that was illegal as shit. Say what you want about the guy who got kicked but no one deserves that, good chance his career is over.
Oh please that was no harder than any PRIDE style kick/stomp
his career will be fine.

Still blows my mind that anyone who watched PRIDE is against kicks and knees to a downed opponent
by discoandherpes on Feb 7, 2012 9:58 PM EST up reply actions
I'm against stomps
And the ‘back of the head rule’ is important and needs to be adhered to. Otherwise I’m for knees and kicks.
I’ve always thought a compromise would be to define a downed opponent as being on their back. You have mobility and options to defend yourself while on a knee, both knees, a 3 point stance or in turtle. On your back, not so much, even if you’re a wizard using the guard.

I don't think that was that bad
The guy that got kicked was being stupid. He wasn’t “down” in the real meaning of a downed opponent. If his fingertips were half an inch off the ground it would be legal. He was playing the game and got caught with a kick.
No, your dumb

He thought he was being cute.
Not sure how cute he’s gonna be with a busted face.

IIRC Kongo had buentello in a front headlock type position and was playing some game of hands on the mat, wait its off, now its back on trying to avoid the knee.
Not quite
Bentello was being held against the cage .
Kongo had half his back, and was throwing knees at his head.
Buentello was witig for the knee to be thrown, and then dropping his hand to the mat.
He then complained to the reff that Kongo was using illegal strikes.
Bentello was told off for playing the game as he was trying to get Kongo penalised for throwing strikes that were legal.
Not for trying to stop Kongo throw the knees in the dirst place.
I was hoping machida was going to do that jones when jones was doing his spider walk to the middle of the cage. Of ocurse machida would have thrown it the millisecond after jones lifted his hand off the floor.

Technically the guy who got kicked was tapping his hand along the ground, if you watch the guy actually gets kinda lucky and kicks him when the other guys 3rd point on the ground isnt on the ground. Id almost call that an illegal kick and I’d deff call it a pretty good example of why you shouldn’t try to be a smart guy and fight with 3 points down so you can’t get kicked. Dude deserved that.
That kick should be legal, this shit is just perfect example of that. That being said the other guy clearly broke the rules and deserved to be DQ’d, but even so I have a hard time sympathizing with the recipient.
"I want to tell me what you see, let's go ahead and see by the fight, what you saw, in the ring."
Rules are rules, no matter how stupid they are… And that dude just got blatantly kicked hard as hell without ever even expecting it. I wonder if the reaction would be the same if someone were to try that against Bones when he does his crawl to the center at the beginning of fights.

Only reason he'll need surgery on his face is to look less inbred.

100% not cool
was the guy gaming the system? Yes. Does that make what that guy did even a little bit ok? No.

He wasn't defending himself at all times
In my book, he broke the bigger rule.

It's ashame that this technique is put in the same category as eye pokes and groin shots
Kicks and knees to a grounded opponent take skill to implement properly, make the sport more exciting, and can see fighters evolve and get better by giving them more tools to finish.
Hard to tell, from the angle.
It’d be nice if they had a camera on the left side.

Serious injuries?
He rolls around, gets up and acts like he wants to GET IT ON!!! It’s no worse than a regular head kick, probably not as bad actually because of the angle and height.
