Royce Gracie (@RealRoyce) just tweeted: "@nickdiaz209 won that fight in my.opinion. he is what every fighter should be a true martial artists who comes to fight. Well prepared and with a gameplan. Not one that envloves running from a fight. Why come to fight if you gonna run. Hackney was running when we fought and I had to take the fight to him, Shamrock showed up not to lose in our rematch its a shame really. I for one am proud of Nick and happy he is part of Grace Jiu-jitsu family."

I made a point about this in your post yesterday.
I felt justified, so to speak, when I woke up and saw his tweet.
My post yesterday, before the tweet:
Thats how the founding Gracies wanted it
The UfC was founded to answer the question of who is the best fighter. It pits two people againist each other until one reaches a point where he/she wishes they had not accepted the aforementioned challenge. Hence they were no time limits in early mma. Judges weren’t necessary because the participants both knew who won and lost. I understand the importance of modern day rules and regulations and support their existence for the most part. What is a shame is when a fighter uses those rules to earn a victory without proving he is the better fighter. The term "better fighter" meaning a guy who engages in a fight and knows the only way out is to stop his opponent, have that opponent quit, or their corner stop the fight. With time constraints decisions are inevitable, but when a fighter abandons trying to actually finish his opponent and his game plan is to rely on "time" to stop the fight he does an injustice to the true essence of the sport and all it’s founding fathers.
I dont care how many finishes he has last night Condit used the system to try and outpoint Diaz. Some call it "a great game plan", but he didn’t prove to be a better fighter. Many people including professionals would even say he ran like a bitch

I would say as a fan he did a great job of making me not care about his fight against George Safe Peirre

Exactly
I have zero excitement looking forward to GSP-Condit. Hopefully the rest of the card is fun.
Agreed, Condit has a lot of finishes but to me the higher profile of a fight the more Jackson’s game plans incorporate “fight not to lose tatics”. I’ll go ahead and say with the exception of Jones. Those tatics are some what acceptable until it gets to the point of blatant mis use of rules and fighting for points, rather than trying to establish who the better fighter is. MMA was not derived to be a point based sport.

This
and I want to say this, I think if Carlos fought the way he used to fight, he could’ve won the fight more convincingly. Carlos’ cardio looked really good and he took shots (not as many as other Nick’s opponents took) and he seemed like he handled it pretty well.
And his offense was phenomenal. He showed some great punches, knees, elbows, and kicks from everywhere. If he answered to Diaz’s pressure, I think he could get the better of Diaz. Also Condit threw great leg kicks and in later rounds, I think Condit’s leg kicks bothered him a little. Condit could turn up the switch there and show that he’s trying to finish the fight.
Some people call me a Diaz fanboy or nuthugger because I think Nick won the fight since I think aggression should be a great part of decision. No, those people are missing a point. I’m not disappointed because Nick lost. I’m disappointed because Carlos didn’t fight the way he could and he promised to fight.
From what I saw, I think GSP will shut Carlos down completely and walk away with another 50-45 unam. decision victory.
Matt "The Terror" Serra!!!!
Diaz was consistently trying to implement his own “game plan” in a sense in trying to corner Condit against the cage, and Condit would counter that game plan with his own. Boxers don’t keep their backs against the ropes as it is a huge disadvantage, and Condit did the same against Diaz as being against the cage would work to Diaz’s game. I really do think that some MMA fans have the wrong idea about what Condit was doing as it was not running away or working the system.

Jackson's Gameplan vs. Nick Diaz=Gameplan vs. Nate Diaz
He wanted Cerrone to do what Condit did, but Cowboy’s gigantic steel balls would not let him run from a fight. I have always been a fan of Cowboy and Nate, and even though Cerrone lost I am still a huge fan, but the same can’t be said of Condit, despite him winning his fight

I respect this quote but running? More like keeping the distance its not like condit didn’t engage in the fight because he did. Second condit isn’t even close to being called a point fighter not now not ever.

He wasnt running?
Can someone plz pu the gif up for this guy when carlos was running halfway acoos the cage with his back to diaz…
No carlos never did point fight but if you dont think his fight with nick diaz was a point fight then you should go watch some kickboxing.
Im mad not that carlos won even though I think he lost I mad because carlos sold me as a finisher he told us he was going to try to finish and it was clear finishing a fight was never in his gameplan. I have been watching MMA since I was 12 17 years now and you know what NIck I quit too. You can have you point fighters and lay and preyers who kill this sport. WHY are our PPV numbes drop so fast last 2 years FIGHTS LIKE THIS

Haha see here’s the thing its called keeping diaz at distance no matter how you do it. Condit was prepared for the swarms against the cage. It’s the differnce between the just bleed guys and mma fans that just get it. You guys will not

I get his game plan. I just think it disrespects the true meaning of mma, b/c fighters base games plan around getting points rather than proving they are a better martial artist. Condit never tried to finish. The rules and judging system were put in to place to make the sport more acceptable and safer, but that shouldn’t take away from fighters seeking to uphold why the sport was founded, which was for the two involved participants to decide the better fighter and end arguments between camps and disciplines. Imo Condit was not trying to do that and a lot of the pros have recognized this as has Royce Gracie

Diaz was working his own game plan though of trying to trap Condit against the cage, and one can see it throughout the fight. Condit simply countered that game plan with his own. Diaz was constantly stalking to corner Condit, not stand with him at all times in the center of the Octagon.

and Condit did a wonderful job showing us his brutal Muay Thai skills that can finish Diaz like he promised in the countdown show… oh wait.
You mean to tell me Condit couldn’t throw one flying knee while Diaz was putting his hands down talking shit? He could have given him a front kick to keep the distance instead of running. I have seen him throw mean front kicks before, Condit does have good MT. If he keeps running away from a fight he is going to loose me as a fan but if he goes back to his killer MT skill set I will gladly remain a fan.

flying knees really only work if a guy if backing up
or if you have a lot of space. And if you don’t want to go to the ground with a guy, you don’t want to throw a flying knee (please see Melvin Gulliard for more details)

There’s no purpose of Condit throwing those particular strikes as he risks getting off balance and into a ground game with Diaz. What he was doing with the leg kicks was effective in that they were connecting.
He’s fighting Nick fuckin Diaz-a guy that wouldn’t get KO’d if he was hit in the head with a lead pipe. I will reserve judgement on Condit until after his next fight, as I feel that he fought the way that he did because he fought such a dangerous guy on the feet and ground as Diaz. Against other opponents who don’t pose the same threat as Diaz, I can see Condit fighting like he used to.

a push kick/teep/whatever you want to call it would not have put him off balance and if anything it would have created more distance since all he did was back up and throw some round kicks.

Dear, Everyone....
When did standing against the cage and eating punches you know are coming become part of mixed martial arts?!! Taking them doesn’t prove you’re a man, tough, or a martial artist, and moving out of the way to do your own style of damage makes you Kalib Freaking Starnes?!
Also, regarding Condit trying or not to finish Diaz…. it’s like if he wasn’t throwing one punch KO power, every swing, then he wasn’t even trying to stop him. Diaz is notably difficult to stop with strikes (i.e. shrugging off a solid high kick, like a sneeze), and even probably more so on the ground, and you feel the need to blame Carlos for avoiding his opponents strengths?
Nick Diaz is a great fighter, hell, I had him picked to win via UD. But there are so many ridiculous notions out there regarding this fight. If the octagon was the size of a throw rug, Diaz would probably win every time, but it’s not, and Condit had a gameplan, stuck to it (credit to him, not many other Diaz opponents can say that) and we got the fight we did.
We know what Jon Fitch is going to do, try and stop it, most people can’t/don’t. You had months to prepare to nullify the one aspect you know is coming, and yet you can’t, shame on Jon Fitch? (No, I don’t think he’s exciting to watch, but how can I logically fault him for playing to his personal strenghts)
Same thing with Diaz, you know what he’s going to do. You either A.) Engage and do it better (good luck) B.) Gameplan and counter-attck or C.) Fall into his taunts and get your ass beat….

(tried to edit for clarify, however this post is likely terrible and incoherent. After 48 hours of reading all this back and forth, and trying to avoid the cyclical arguments that will likely never end, like that one song that never ends…. and no one to debate with out loud, it’s spilling over… I’m going to try and be done on this topic now. whew.)
