UFC 143 Results: Dana White Talks Carlos Condit's Next Fight, Nick Diaz's Retirement
This story was updated at 4:30 PM EST.
MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani caught up with Dana White after UFC 143 for their customary chat, asking the boss what he thought about the night's proceedings and what could be next for his new interim welterweight champion. Helwani actually interviewed White twice, once for MMA Fighting and another time for Fuel TV.
Some highlights of the two interviews:
- How he scored Carlos Condit vs. Nick Diaz and his analysis of both men's game plans.
- Whether he feels Diaz's heart in still in MMA and if he thinks Diaz is truly retired.
- His opinion on whether Condit should wait to fight Georges St. Pierre or fight again before then.
- His love of Roy Nelson's chin and hatred of his mullet and beard.
- How he scored Mike Pierce vs. Josh Koscheck and making Koscheck vs. Diaz a reality.
- Whether Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez is a No. 1 contender's fight.
- Koscheck wanting the big fights and what weight class makes the most sense for him.
- His surprise at a two point deduction in the Alex Caceres vs. Edwin Figueroa fight.
- His reaction at a shirtless Mike Goldberg running around backstage (yes, this happened).

when White spoke of Condit's movement in the ring, he looked away and actually meant "chicken shit".
He's a "chicken shit" because
He used movement to not fight the fight Diaz wants? You act like Carlos did nothing but run away. He cut angles and hit Nick with countless different techniques. Is Nick a "chicken shit’ for shooting takedowns like the guys he says are “bitches”?

according to helwani...
a UD win is a controversial end ? it was no machida/shogun 1, that’s for sure.
I said this before and I'll say it again.
The absolute reason this was even remotely controversial is because the darling golden boy Nick Diaz. If it had been against anyone else no one would say shit.

So wrong
If Condit looked like he was actually human cock fighting, I would give him his props. I dont find a free live stream just to watch a karate tournament
Are you really that delusional?
Condit was throw everything in his arsenal at Diaz? He was just jabbing and doing nothing? He was trying to put it on Nick without being baited into Diaz gameplan of stand in from of me so I can throw 1000 punches and finish you.

the point is, i was not entertained as a fan. i paid money to watch this main event on ppv and was not entertained because of the way Condit fought
i’m pissed and don’t give a shit it was Condit’s gameplay to go into the octagon and fight like that against Diaz. may be next time if Condit is on a card, i just won’t buy it because of knowing how Condit would peform.
that would be your loss.
adaptability and versatility is the name of the game, if you think condit will fight like that against every future opponent, i dont even know what to say to that.
his performance was cutout to fight nick diaz, he did what GSP does, fight against his opponents strength and make him feel helpless. anyone who fights the phone booth fight against diaz bros comes out with a L, that much was already established, even paul daley couldn’t handle it.
these championship caliber fighters design their strategy based on their opponent, nothing is concrete or permanent.
Have you see Condit fight before? They're hardly boring...
I’m at a loss for words here. Ever heard of the term “styles make fights”? So your saying that Condit should allow himself to be pressed into the cage and allow a superior combination fighter to pummel his face in? Or risk the ground game of a legit Gracie BBJ black belt?
Condit wanted to win and hedged his bets in his favor. I just don’t understand your line of thinking. If your a “JUST BLEED” douche bag go watched pro wrestlin. That way you know what your paying for. I prefer to watch real fights and interesting technical match ups.
Winter is coming...
I AM SO ANGRY THAT CONDIT FOUGHT TO WIN AND NOT TO ENTERAIN ME!
jesus, bro
El Santo inspired me to be a submission grappler.
...my knee jerks and kicks a strawman right in the junk. :(
Oh, I thought he was there to race.
I thought it was strange when I didn’t see the finish line. But I am sure someone handed Carlos some Gatorade when he was running past the cage a couple of times.
yes it quickly went from fight of the century to let down of the year

robbery of the century ?
good god man, with that sig, you expect to be taken seriously ?
I don't expect anything
But in my opinion it’s the biggest robbery I’ve ever seen in the UFC and I’ve seen them all. Even the crappy TUF episodes.

Great way to make a good impression with Zuffas new partners Goldberg. Who doesn’t love a guy who runs around in public with no shirt on for absolutely no reason?
This was a ppv and
Had nothing to do with Fox. You have absolutely no idea what Goldberg was doing so leave the man alone for once. Atleast he knows how to speak into a mic properly without scream. Joe could learn a thing or two from Mike.

I have absolutely no idea what he’s doing when i have to sit through his commentaries either, so i definitely won’t leave him alone.

Here's a simple solution to that
Don’t sit through it. I know it’s fun to talk crap about Goldberg but damn he did absolutely nothing wrong lastnight. Who do you think could do a better job in his position? Sir twitch alot Anik?

im not shitting on goldie hes great
But he does screw up more then other people on the broadcast. For me its unacceptable for him to talk about say an upcoming fight is at 145 (caceres and fig) when it says bantamweight under their pictures and faces.

Really?
Every single person I’ve ever spoke with about MMA has made the same mistake of saying the wrong weightclass. He slipped up everyone does it.

On a related note
Goldberg actually was that bad tonight, outside of a couple usual Goldbergisms.

They only way Goldy could be considered good yesterday is by the rock bottom standards he's set for himself.
Fedor was a myth, Werdum’s clinch was like Anderson Silva’s, Matt Brown has never been in a boring fight, minute plus lapses between calling action…

Glad to see somebody else got pissed at the Fedor comment
As Fedor is the greatest heavyweight of all time, IMO (sure I’m about to get flamed, but he is). I doubt Goldy even believes what he said though; may have just been taking a shot for brownie points with DW.
by Ryjo on Feb 5, 2012 3:31 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I don't get the Fedor comment but
Comparing some nasty MT to another case of nasty MT makes sense to me. The Matt Brown thing is somewhat true he is usually in exciting fights. I’m sure he was just exaggerating about him “never” being in a boring fight.

thanks for the link!
Many respected authorities recommend that practically all singular nouns, including those ending with a sibilant sound, have possessive forms with an extra s after the apostrophe so that the spelling reflects the underlying pronunciation.

Selective exclusion
Some writers like to reflect standard spoken practice in cases like these with sake: for convenience’ sake, for goodness’ sake, for appearance’ sake, for compromise’ sake, etc. This punctuation is preferred in major style guides
