The Reason Nick Diaz Lost..

I blame Nick Diaz’s corner for the loss.

I was rooting for Condit to win and I'm happy that he did, but the last minute of the fight showed me that Diaz would have won with the right advice from his corner.

Diaz forgot that he's a high level Gracie BJJ black belt and thought that he was Oscar Dela Hoya in there. It should have been his corner's job (Nate or Cesar Gracie or whoever) to tell him "use your BJJ and you will win the fight." Instead, Nate told Nick going into the 5th round that he was, "up 3 to 1".

They should have told him to take Condit down and go for a submission after seeing how Condit fought the first round. Or they should have at least told him after the 3rd round to take Condit down and go for a submission in the 4th. But instead they didn’t tell him anything that helped him and Diaz didn’t take Condit down until there was 1 minute left in a 5 round fight.

To me that’s just bad coaching/corner work and that's why Nick Diaz lost..

No shit haha..

I’m saying that if his corner would have gave him the right advice he would have won the fight.

I was rooting for Condit anyway.

I just wanted to point out that Diaz’s corner fucked up by not telling him to use his best weapon, his BJJ, because no one else has said anything about it yet..

Yeah I was just goofin'

Shogun’s corner did the same thing to him against Machida the first time.

Yeah, Diaz should have changed up the gameplan.

It was clear after the second round that Condit wasn’t falling for Diaz’s old tricks. Condit was getting more and more confident in his game plan. What Diaz should have done was done anything he could to get a hold of Condit and drag him to the ground. He tried a couple half-hearted takedowns, but when those failed, he sort of didn’t know what to do. Shows you how weak Diaz’ wrestling is.

He countered it perfectly in the 5th.

It just took him so damn long to do it.

Staying close and grabbing instead of trying to punch as Condit exited was perfect, he’s not giving you a target to swing at but he can’t defend a takedown from there either.

This

is why I’d like to see a re-match. Lets see if Diaz adjusts, and if Condit tries a new tack.

by Dootch on Feb 5, 2012 2:28 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

But Dana White said at the press conference that there will be no immediate rematch.

by KNOWLEGE on Feb 5, 2012 3:05 PM EST up reply actions

After the presser, he said “we’ll see what happens with the Ellenberger fight” when talking to reporters. I think if enough fans ask for it, they will get the rematch.

This is the gif that I would have put in my post if I knew how to find gifs..

If nick would have done this much sooner he would have most likely won the fight.

by KNOWLEGE on Feb 5, 2012 3:03 PM EST up reply actions

Yup.

When a guy is pulling a Machida, you gotta kick him back to reduce his mobility, or grab a hold of him and don’t let go.

by pud333 on Feb 6, 2012 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

Or do what Rampage did against Machida.

His gameplan was awesome, he glued (metaphorically) his lead foot to the outside blade of Machida’s lead foot and refused to give him any space at all. Had Nick aggressively cut Carlos off laterally at the cage, he could’ve had success. And yes, clinching once your footwork can’t keep him stationary any more is the way to go.

I could watch these guys fight again anytime.

To me Nick didn’t adjust at all, except for brief instances where he tried to throw some kicks, which looked improved, and a short portion of the third and fourth where he tried to let Carlos come to him briefly. In both cases, he got countered hardand immediately went right back to wading straight in. He did try to get Carlos down numerous times earlier, he just had nothing for Carlos in the clinch and got brushed off easily everytime until the last two minutes. Nick can do better, . I thought he was pretty disappointing in that his taunting act got tired, and he had no other ideas about how to impose his game.

I completely agree.

That’s why I blame his corner cause they should have helped him adjust by telling him what to do. Instead his brother just told him that he was winning the fight, which we now know was wrong.

I've rewatched the fight 3 times now.

I still don’t understand how Carlos won.

Outside of his front leg kicks, Carlos didn’t do anything to Diaz.

You are aware those count, right?

And don’t forget those pesky kicks to the face.

I usually agree with u every time rollover, but I disagree here. I think the 2nd was a toss up but I gave it to Diaz. The 5th was the decider and I didn’t think the TD was enough, but I thought it might steal the round fir Diaz.

the intensity of the kicks doesn't matter..

in a fight where the other guy has even less of a offensive output to offer, the volume does, and that is what won carlos the fight, i am not blown away by either dudes, a healthy GSP will make them eat their words all day everyday.

by carmine99 on Feb 5, 2012 6:49 PM EST reply actions

I know what won Carlos the fight..

My post is about what lost Nick the fight.

I was rooting for Condit..

The Underground is annoying the piss out of me.

Every person insist that “Diaz was robbed!” Uh, no. He got outsmarted and his gameplan sucked. Plod forward, repeat, plod forward, repeat.

I never said "Diaz was robbed!"

In fact, I clearly stated in my post that I was rooting for Carlos Condit and that I’m happy he won the fight. But I do agree with you that Diaz fans saying he was robbed is getting annoying..

I'm gonna re-watch the fight and I'm gonna count the takedown attempts..

I just need to find somewhere that has the fight so I can watch it again.

Seems like

Diaz has quite a young following who just can’t handle the fact he lost – judging my the reactions all over the internets How the word robbery is used in a close fight like this is beyond me.

And I think Sat night showed that GSP would beat Diaz hands down. Anyone doubting that after seeing that on Sat must be crazy imo.
