Fight marketing #5 - Carlos Condit & broken promises
People are all torn up about the Condit/Diaz. I was kinda bummed too since I was rooting for Diaz. But here's what annoyed me:

One of the worst things you can do is mislead the public saying you're gonna go in there and do this and that and then do the opposite. Don't say you're going to go in and throw bombs and then shoot for takedowns all day long. It's false advertising and it pisses people off.
Fighters do it thinking it'll get them some advantage in the fight. Thinking they'll mislead their opponent and then catch them off guard by changing the gameplan. We saw it in Bisping/Miller when Miller was saying how good his striking was and to see who shoots first. Of course Miller is the first to shoot and his striking looks terrible. Or Hardy/Anthony Johnson, where Johnson was making big promises of standing and trading only to take and hold him down.
It's a poor tradeoff in my mind because 9/10 times the opponent isn't going to buy it. There was no way Bisping truly thought Miller was going to stand and trade. Occasionally it might work but it's going to lose you fans. People are going to be angry if you don't deliver on your promises. I bet Carlos didn't win many fans with that fight. And likely lost some.
He went in saying he was gonna go after it from bell to bell until one of them stops moving. Over 3 primetime shows we heard him declare how he was gonna destroy Diaz. Then the fight happened...
It's funny, Diaz runs to prepare for the fight. While Condit trains for a fight to prepare to run.
It could've been worse. Though people are still saying Condit was on some Kalib Starnes shit and calling him the Natural Born Runner.
On the bright side he's only a good performance away from living that down. So here's to hoping he lives it down in spectacular fashion.

I just posted this in another thread but seriously, get over it.
This is a few people now who are feeling sad that you got “sold” into something. Ya know what, Condit fights, he finishes people, and he is a beast. How long have you been watching this sport? Are you seriously that surprised that Condit had the cognitive thinking and maturity to execute a game plan where he didn’t just stand in front of Nick?
I’ve been asking this all night long with no answer. If you were in a cage with Nick Diaz right now, how would you have fought that fight? Honestly, how would you have gone in there and done it?
Fighters saying one thing and doing another is fine with me. Yeah sometimes the fights are boring but it’s called the mental game. Diaz tries to play it all the time. When people get sucked into his mental game i.e. Daley, Penn, etc. they lose. Kudos to him for being great at that.
Also the other thing that you and so many people are failing to see is that NICK LOOKED LIKE A FISH OUT OF WATER!!! Why couldn’t the almighty Diaz cutoff the cage better? Why couldn’t he have brought the fight more to Condit? He was literally just walking towards him. The only time he would throw was when Condit was against the cage which surprise surprise is his biggest strength!!! Boo Condit though right?
Instead of trying to taunt him so much maybe he should’ve started to land, which he didn’t. Get over it.
Although I do think people are being hard on Condit
He did say he was coming to kick Diaz’s head off.
Of course, we should never believe what fighters say.
That fight sucked
Fight of the year candidate? LOL
I honestly can’t say I am even remotely excited to watch Condit fight GSP. Who will avoid engaging less!? What a horrible outcome of what should have been an incredible fight. Nick Diaz lost, the fans lost, everyone lost. This could not be worse.
That picture
Is one of the best I ever seen, evar

Condit also said
that while he COULD stand and band, he planned to use his variety of strikes and his technical abilities. He said this, multiple times, in the Primetime shows. Of course he said other stuff, too, and of course for its ads the UFC grabbed onto the stuff that sounded the most Just Bleedesque in its hostility, Joe, but you have to know by now that what you are sold is almost never what you get. Especially since you’re sold the same thing every time.
If we are to believe everything we hear pre-fight
we should be seeing a 100% finishing rate.
Condit has 28 wins, and he’s finished 26 of them, holy fucking shit MMA fans can be annoying fickle assholes
