In case you were worried, Steve Mazzagatti will be the referee for tonight's UFC 143 main event between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight title and Cecil Peoples will be judging. Photo via Sherdog.

Serriously
I wasn’t worried before, but I sure as hell am now.

I'm continually baffled and fascinated by this thing
Does Cecil People’s, Champion, have any influences? Did he derive it from a cheerleader traffic cop? Did he combine a football penalty gesture with a kata? What is going on here? Is Cecil Peoples a true original?

Judging shouldn’t matter, if this goes five I’ll be absolutely stunned. Reffing shouldn’t matter that much either. Neither guy is cheap or dirty or LnP. You pretty much just have to ring the bell and get out of their way for five minutes with these two.
An early/late stoppage would be the only thing that would concern me. Both guys find themselves in situations where they take an absurd amount of punishment and storm back. I wouldn’t want that ref’s job, honestly, it’s gonna be a fine line unless someone turns off the other’s lights.

I agree
I would hate it if Condit or Diaz got dropped only to be robbed of an opportunity to comeback.

That would be a shame
I hate early stoppages about as much as I hate late stoppages. I think the Fedor one ruined a possible all-time classic (not to dispute it, he was out but was defending himself)

Talk about adding tension to an already sick fight!
Best possible situation.
No, you're not drunk. I am this good-looking.
NO TALKING NICK!
I really hope Maz changes his stance on talking during a fight, he told Nick it wasn’t allowed during his fight with Robbie Lawler.

There is something about conduct in the ring

No talking?
I want it to go the other way around: they should put a better mic in the octagon so we can hear what Diaz is saying.
NO TALKING ALI

Remember when Daley dropped Diaz, Diaz recovered then finished Daley in what was arguable Round of the year?
Mazzagatti would have stopped the fight as soon as Daley dropped Diaz.

hmm.
mazzagatti used to flak for letting beatings go on too long.
i don’t remember too many premature stoppages on his part.
This potential FOTY fight will end with a giant pile of shit.
This fight has early stoppage written all over it. We all about to get Mazzagatti’d.
"You've got Floyd Mayweather making $25 million. He can't stop a double-leg..." Nick Diaz.
The only hope I have
Is that Dana instructed the refs to let them fight. There are many early stoppages in title fights thank God (Edgar-Maynard, Silva-Okami, Jones-Rua, etc…)

Dana White's not allowed to interfere with Commission procedure
The most he can do is make subtle hints that he’ll take his business out of Nevada, a subtle hint at having other commissions make money or pressure on the commissions from the state because of the money lost.

considering that mazzagatti is known for NOT stopping fights early
i’m okay with this. plus, we might be treated to one of the trademark flying “shield fighter with own body” maneuvers.
as long as he doesn’t take points away without a warning.
