OT: Help out my short film
Hey guys, off topic here but just wanted to share that a short film I worked on that is on the verge of reaching the Finals of the 2012 Tropfest Short Film Festival - which is the words largest short film festival and I need support.
Basically we're in the running against 9 other films to secure the last remaining spot in the Final 16 (Just like K-1)
If you feel like helping out all you need to do is go to www.youtube.com/tropfest, click on the VOTE button, scroll over and find the film called 'Clarences Kite', watch it and if you like it press the VOTE UP button.

Pretty cute. I didn’t check all the rest out yet. Good luck!
What's this war in the heart of nature? Why does nature vie with itself? The land contend with the sea? Is there an avenging power in nature? Not one power, but two?

I'm a tool
So I pretty much did it without thought. I could have just voted for banning Dihydrogen monoxide for all I know.
The flick was pretty cool though.
Haha cheers guys :)
For those interested I worked as Art Director, Character/Environment Designer, Storyboard Artist and Background Painter.

I do animation/character deisgn/concept art myself
and just a suggestion… if you care… but I think if you want a visually stronger piece, is to keep all your models/textures within the same level/theme/etc. For instance, on this piece, everything is pretty cartooney, the models and textures, but then you have a photorealistic tree bark texture on the tree. And even with such a high detailed texture, it’s still flat on the tree. It’s looks/feels out of place.
For future stuff I’d work on making everything really fit together on the same level, wither that be realistic, cartooney, stylized, etc. It’ll help sell your stuff a lot better.
Just my .02. Keep up the good work.

Cheers mate
Yeah I get ya man, we went through a whole bunch of different looks though though I felt having more realistic textures complimented the very simple geometry of the film but that’s me :)
You work freelance or work for a company right now?

Gotcha
nothing wrong with that!
As for moi… right now I’m freelance while trying to get into a studio full time, wither that be for concepting or animation… but ultimately animation is my main goal/focus.

This film supports animal cruelty so I shall not be voting
Jk. Just out of interest what programme did you use to make this?

Nah Sir David Attenborough said Sugar Gliders like being kites
Autodesk Maya was used for characters, environments, lighting, animating, rigging.
Photoshop for all texturing and background paintings and pre-production work
Composting done via Adobe After Effects and Premiere.
Sound was done at this studio which cost money :)

lol okay
Damn Autodesk looks expensive. I take it you’re not a student then? Are you working for a production company or anything no?

I voted for ya mate. This is a quality effort, well done. Keep it going and on to the next. Can’t imagine the work that went into this. I occasionally do storyboards and illustrations for animatics. Animation is HARD work, bravo man.
