Kickboxing sources?
Long time lurker, first time poster here.
Anyway, for the hardcore kickboxing fans here--where do you guys get your news sources? I've been searching for a while, and the only site I've come across that gives dedicated coverage to pro kickboxing is liverkick.com, but... I don't like it.
Sherdog and BE both have active communities, credible ranking lists, historical articles, etc. Liverkick has, like, 1 comment per post, rankings that haven't been updated in forever, and pretty shallow coverage of kickboxing events. No in-depth post/pre-fight analyses, no nothing.
Yeah, there's headkicklegend, but HKL covers MMA wayyy more than kickboxing.
So, help, kickboxing fans, for a kickboxing noob like me?

So . . . no one decided to help.
Personally I am looking for a location that covers muay-thai or kick boxing myself. But MMA is very popular and that’s where the money is at. Note, Badr Hari is very serious about going into boxing. Tyrone Sprong is on his way to either boxing or MMA.

See, I don’t really get that. Yeah, MMA and boxing are more popular than kickboxing, so you’d expect to see more coverage, but it feels like kickboxing gets almost zero exposure. Hell, I find more coverage of niche competitions like pro Starcraft 2 and League of Legends than I do for K-1 and It’s Showtime.
Isn’t kickboxing more popular in Europe and east Asia? Yet nobody decided to make some money off of being a kickboxing journalist?
By the way, a quick google search on Sherdog and kickboxing gave similar results with no one responding.

Here is a link that works. It’s in English and this site appears to be dedicated to Muay Thai and Kick Boxing. Now I’m glad that you asked the question because this site looks neat and doesn’t appear to be UFC heavy.

Sorry
I’m a huge kickboxing fan, but I haven’t found anything better than Liverkick (which used to be much better than it is now, IMO). HKL used to be much better on that front, too. Part of the problem is the death (for all intents and purposes) of K-1, which is what drove most of the interest in the English-speaking world.

Really? I remember even 2-3 years ago, right before K-1 started going through all its difficulties, how hard it was to find good news sources for kickboxing. I thought to myself, “Do I have to Wikipedia EVERYTHING?”
I don’t know how the hardcore fans keep up to date.

I feel ya
My experience was similar, but I just stopped looking after a while, and Wikipedia was really it. I’m not sure there are enough hardcore fans to sustain a analytic site and community like Bloody Elbow, or even enough content available to people in the US.

It’s weird, I’d expect there to be a huge market for kickboxing. A lot of casual people probably have the attitude that boxing’s too one-dimensional, while MMA’s too much dry-humping, so kickboxing should naturally appeal to most people. But, nope, nada. It’s amazing that K-1’s lasted for so long.

I think it’s just that kickboxing isn’t a big deal at the local level. Part of what’s helping to drive MMA right now is its ubiquity; you go to a bar, there’s a flyer for a local show. Drive down the street, see an MMA gym. You turn on the TV, there’s an ad for an upcoming UFC PPV. Kickboxing gets no such exposure, so the only people who know about upcoming fights are those who actively seek it out.

Liver Kick and the K1 fans forum.
That’s pretty much it.

not a kickboxing expert by any means but I'd recommend Head Kick Legend
Just because some of the community here write on it

HeadKickLegend was great when Dave Walsh and Fraser ran it. After that Brent Ducharme did excelent job covering Muay Thai, but since he left, there is no one to write about it.
I think that all things considered LiverKick is still good place. There is not as much daily coverege as on MMA or boxing sites, but it’s probably related to general apathy in kickboxing world: big stars retiring or being inactive, some organizations died or are dying, others (small ones) are still establishing themself, disinterest of people, etc.
But when there is something happening LiverKick does a good job covering it as good as it’s possible in that environment.
If you’re interested in Muay Thai, I would recommend you mymuaythai.com
I don’t know if that is what you expect from a site, but it’s a great place.

Personally I like Liverkick, but agree that the lack of coverage is pretty sad.
Also, if you are anywhere near NYC, March 16 is “Muay Thai at the Mecca” – 1st ever Muay Thai card at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Main event is Rigel Balsamico (former Champion in Thailand) vs Ryan Madigan (who competed at UFC 96).

Muay Thai is okay at MSG, but MMA isn’t? I hate my state sometimes.

Liverkick is the only good source right now, that I’m aware of.. I used to like the old HKL back in the day, but now it’s pretty much BE lite without any real kickboxing coverage.
There are some minor problems with Liverkick, like the lack of community and the general layout, but overall it’s the best site out there.

LK’s layout is god awful. I don’t know why they decided it’d be a smart idea to make the twitter feed/polls/login take up half of the page, while the actual articles are squeezed onto the other half.

Yeah, agreed. It’s part of the middleeasy network / platform as I’m sure you are aware, so those sites all have very similar layout.. it’s pretty bad, unfortunately. Would have loved for the site to be on SBN instead, but I’m guessing they had some sort motive behind that move.

It is all in Dutch but the best source for Dutch MMA and kickboxing
definitely is the forum of Mixfight (http://www.mixfight.nl/forum)
People who train at the known gyms in the Netherlands are actively participating and informing each other. That includes very well-known people from the sport.
I cover the big stuff here, but for the smaller news there’s just not the time for it on this site. So places to suggest:
LiverKick.com
mixfight.nl for Europe
Its Showtime’s official site
When there’s action in Japan, Nightmare of Battle is good as is BoutReview (but you have to read it translated, which can be tough)
MyMuayThai is a great site full of recent videos if you want the Thai scene
International Kickboxer Magazine for the awesome and overlooked Australian scene
But yeah, I tend to hunt around to various places rather than use one all purpose stop.
