The UFC Has Been Spared Once Again...This Time by Carlos Condit
Just as in Anderson Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen at UFC 117 the UFC had a terrific fight that was so good, it was demanded by fans to see it again. Just as the immediate rematch was about to be made, Chael however was suspended by the CSAC for elevated testosterone levels, and on top of that he was convicted for money laundering. Imagine that closely contested bout ended with Chael getting the decision...The UFC would have been embarrassed with a this man as their Champion. His title would have been stripped from him and the whole ordeal would have been twice as ugly as it was.
Jump to UFC 143, we have Nick Diaz facing off against Greg Jacksons own Carlos Condit. This was also a hotly contested bout but as Compustrike and Fightmetric numbers have shown us Carlos Condit clearly won that fight. The only way Diaz won that fight was in the eyes of the same judges who gave Garcia the W against KZ. Yes he walked forward...but he did not control that fight. As you see i think Carlos won due to better execution even if it was a rather boring and deceitful game plan to the fans. With figthers twittering that Diaz won and most journalist considering Carlos the winner this bout was all but set for a rematch before GSP returned...Diaz however had to do what he's expected to and test positive for an illegal substance. Now just imagine if we won...The fight between him and GSP being hyped...maybe GSP coming in the cage...promo getting started thinking about another blowout in Toronto...and boom Diaz is out for a year. Glad Carlos won to save us the headache of having to see UFC scramble to find someone to fight GSP in Nov.

Man Nick Diaz has been saved by Carlos Condit
I don’t think Diaz won that fight anyway, but if the judges had given him the decision Dana would be giving him his walking papers today.
Imagine the damage done to the division if he had eliminated Condit as a contender and then Diaz was out for a year? At least this way there’s still a number one contender.

Hindsight is 20/20
The fight was close…so I’m not debating about who the decision should or should not have gone to.
I tend to look at fights a few different ways. How may play out purely from the fighting standpoint, who would be better promotionally with a win, and who the UFC would prefer to win.
The controversy/attention and long winning streak of Diaz and his fued with GSP only pays off if he pisses clean.
It’s better that it happened now, as opposed to after winning a title or something.
"You got Floyd Mayweather making 25 million dollars...he can't stop the double leg." - Nick Diaz
That last sentence is exactly what i'm saying
With that said though they won’t cut him so i’m sure it’ll be as big of a fight as Silva Sonnen 2 will be but in 2013. GSP will still be champion and the fight will be bigger and better.
I’m not resting until I’m officially Anderson Silva status.- Jon "Bones" Jones
Fightmetric didn't show Condit "clearly" winning
It showed an extremely close match, with rounds 1, 3, and 5 all being tossups. Even the total effectiveness score was as close as I’ve ever seen.
