Good Idea that is not

agreed
that move has rarely gone well for heavyweights.

agreed.
Also, Mr. Mexicutioner is not nearly fast nor grapple savvy enough for 205lb. competition.
Bellator, perhaps?

anyone besides the upper levels of Zuffa
the Heavyweights are really iffy and he could thrive

I don't know about that-
Gilbert Yvel beasted at 205. Feijao used to fight at heavy, and he’s an animal. King Mo’s first few fights were at heavyweight. Mike Kyle is actually undefeated at 205, all of his losses are at heavyweight. Matyushenko has always done better at light heavyweight. Babalu and Hendo both fought at heavy back in the day, and have had much more career success at 205 (and middleweight for Dan).

Evans and Jardine started at HW, didn’t they? And there’s this Couture guy that did pretty well at LHW for a primarily HW guy…
Can't remember about Jardine
But I know that Evans just did heavyweight for that season of TUF. I think he’s always been a LHW

All those guys
Are far more skilled than Joey Beltran.

That's not the point though.
The point is that there have been plenty of guys who started at heavyweight, cut to 205, and did well. I don’t think Beltran will be a world beater, but I could see him being a lower- tier gatekeeper

He's already that at HW
I’d only cut to LHW if I was athletic.

205...
Better pick up some more skills then.

Something other than a chin

Well having a chin is probably the most important attribute in MMA… of course, once it’s cracked, you’re left with not much.
Not necessarily
I think there are alot of successful fighters with average- below average chins. Rich Franklin, for example, has never had a great chin, but he worked around that, and makes sure that he doesn’t get hit often.
Semmy Schilt is another example.

Rich Franklin is a great example
People forget that Franklin is so good at fucking people up that he doesn’t have a great chin.

I don’t know why he came in so light against Johnson considering how badly he’s done in his last few fights. Johnson is a big HW despite being pretty inconsistent and it was like a man vs a boy. If he’s lost the weight he might as well try LHW in somewhere like Bellator, that division is hardly stacked.

He seemed so distraught after the loss in the behind the scenes footage
I really hope that wherever he goes from here that he has as much success as he can get.
