Sarah Kaufman was undeserving of a title shot
When it was announced Ronda Rousey will be getting the title shot against Miesha Tate instead of Sarah Kaufman, Sarah posted this quote:

Never mind Ronda not deserving a title shot, I don’t think Sarah Kaufman deserves one. Couple reasons:
1) Let’s take a look at those two wins shall we? Her first fight since losing the title wasn’t even in Strikeforce and was against 39 year old Megumi Yabushita.
Megumi has a 1-10 kickboxing record and a 19-19 MMA record. My point? She is not an impressive fighter. A win over her is nothing to be proud of.
Sarah’s second win was over Liz Carmouche who much like Ronda got a title shot after only 2 Strikeforce wins. Liz is a preposterously overrated fighter. Why? Because she’s ranked #6 at 135 and yet is a mediocre fighter with unimpressive wins over cans. Look at Liz’s record:
1st win vs. Aleena Albertson (0-1)
2nd win vs. Margarita de la Cruz Ramirez (1-2)
3rd win vs. Colleen Schneider (1-3)
4th win vs. Valentina Shevchenko (1-1)
5th win vs. Jan Finney (8-10)
Yup, 5 wins against these women (not one of which has more wins than losses) and that gets her a title shot, and ranked #6 in the world.
Now I like watching the women’s divisions in MMA, but let’s be honest and say the women’s divisions are pretty thin.
Sarah beats a washed up 39 year old can and a mediocre Liz Carmouche and thinks she’s deserving of a title shot? It’s almost laughable. Now I’m not saying Ronda’s case is much better, but Sarah’s unimpressive wins over unimpressive opponents means Ronda wins by default.
2) This whole ‘deserving’ title shots and ‘rankings’ talk is kinda silly. This is the promotion that gave Brett Rogers a title shot after LOSING a fight. And as far as balancing entertainment and competition, Dana White once threatened to fire the greatest fighter on the planet. Why? Because he put on a boring fight.
It’s funny to hear people saying Ronda getting the title shot would make the division seem less credible. Frankly, if Sarah was to get the shot it would be just as big of a joke. I can’t find a single truly deserving title contender at 135. So you have to go with the least worst.
I am not impressed by your performances

Both Fujii and Carmouche are vastly better fighters than the girls Rousey has beaten.
Also, Kaufman has a decisive win over THE CURRENT CHAMPION. She is absolutely more deserving than Ronda.

What does Fujii have to do with this?
Julia Budd was a good win. Compared to Carmouche’s.

Wrong Megumi, slip of the tongue.
Still, Yabushita was a solid vet and a good win for Kaufman. Carmouche obviously has a ton of upside, and is a better win than any of Rousey’s opponents.
Listen. Kaufman is 7-1 in the last 3 years; her wins over Tate and Modafferri were huge at the time, and the Hashi + Baszler wins were a pretty fucking big deal also. Again- much better quality wins than anything Rousey has.
When you take into account that Kaufman was a reigning champion of her weight class, and has a win over the current champ, and is in the win column, it makes her a helluva lot more deserving than Ronda “I’m only getting a title shot because people don’t consider WMMA anything more than a freak show” Rousey.

I'm not arguing that Kaufman isn't deserving
I just thought you might have believed she had a win over Mega Megu(who would probably still break her arm weighing 115lbs).
That and I think Carmouche’s wins don’t mean much more than Rousey’s, if at all.

don't mean more than Rousey's.
But she is at the same level as Rousey.

Not really
They both haven’t beaten particularly good fighters, and Rousey has finished everyone she has fought impressively.

That's not the issue.
The issue is that Carmouche and Yabushita are better than the girls that ROUSEY has defeated.
You can’t argue that Rousey has better quality wins than Kaufman, it’s nonsensical.

Way more than "slightly better".
The Modafferri win was HUGE at the time, especially considering how she stopped Roxy, and that Modafferri was just hot off the win over LaRosa. The Tate win can’t be understated either.

Sad thing is there's really no gatekeepers in WMMA right now
They’re either a contender or a can. DAMN THE SHALLOWNESS.

You posted a picture of the exact reason why she deserves a title shot. You see that thing she’s holding? SHE’S THE FORMER CHAMPION. And like Eliot said, she has beaten the current champ before.

I’d agree her past win over Miesha tate is her best claim to the title shot, but I think momentum since a past loss seems to be important.
Or should Ryo Chonan be given a shot at Anderson because he once beat him? Despite not having put together a string of impressive wins?
You're digging a deeper hole
As you said, with the thin depth in almost all the women’s weight classes currently, there’s plenty of argument for just about anyone getting a title shot. Rousey, with a 4-0 record (and an undefeated amateur record) with all 1st round armbar finishes, and the hype that comes with it, is certainly welcome to state her case for such a title shot. And Strikeforce, are certainly willing to give it to her.
However, you’re continuing to argue against a Kaufman, who WAS the 135 lb champion, AND holds a win over the current 135 lb champion, AND has a 14-1 record, AND has beaten Davis, Tate, Baszler, Hashi, Modafferi, and Yabushita, AND who is on a 2 fight win streak since her loss. You’re ripping Kaufman’s strength of opponents, in favor of a girl who only has 4 MMA fights, against inferior competition to what Kaufman faced, and has never yet fought at 135 lbs. You don’t get to argue one side of the coin and ignore the other.
And now you’re stretching to this? Comparing Kaufman to Chonan for this purpose is nonsensical.
If Chonan had gone on to capture and defend a title in the same organization as Anderson,
then yes- it might’ve made sense for them to rematch.
Rampage got a rematch for the title against Chuck, despite not being on a very impressive win streak. Having a recent win (meaning that it happened in the last few years) over the current champion is absolutely a big bonus in deserving a title shot.

didn’t Vitor got a title shot straight as soon as he dropped to MW?
I recently quit drinking carbonated beverages.
Nah, Vitor had already fought at 185 in Affliction, and he beasted on Rich at Franklinweight.

my bad!
I should have said first fight as MW in UFC, but Franklin’s come to Jesus is as good an argument for a title shot as any (Leites anyone?)
I recently quit drinking carbonated beverages.
The Franklin win was a very meaningful win at the time.
People discount it because of the catchweight, but the fact of the matter is that Vitor destroyed Rich, who was still very much an elite fighter, and at the very top of the heap at middleweight and light heavy.

It's not just that she deserves it more
She had been told she’d get the next shot. That’s why she considers it her title shot that Rousey’s taken.
I'd rather see Ronda punched in a booby than KAufman
Her literal ass puts asses in seats
I recently quit drinking carbonated beverages.
Good post.
Women’s division thin. Yup, that’s basically what Dana White has been saying for quite a while.
