Training at Marcelo Garcia's BJJ Academy: Awesomness
I FUCKING LOVE TRAINING AT MARCELO'S ACADEMY!!!! Alright I got that out there. Yesterday we learned a few different chokes. The first was simple guillotine defense on a double leg takedown. We were also taught how to counter the guillotine by gripping the opponents back by grabbing reaching over his shoulder and grabbing his gi and turning to his side, tapping his knee and taking him down. We were then taught a counter to this turning away counter. The guillotine attemptee would let the choke go and counter by underhooking the arm that reached over the back, grabbing the other arm's sleeve just above the elbow, stepping inside of your opponent and dropping to your knee right by his far side foot and then throwing your opponent over in a dragging and tripping style of motion.
The other two chokes we learnt were gi chokes and right at this moment i don't really have the patience to explain them both. HOWEVER I MUST INFORM ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WILL READY THIS that my new favorite submission is the BOW AND ARROW CHOKE! It's so damn cool and effective. Both of the gi chokes we were taught were insta-taps if applied correctly, especially the Bow and Arrow choke. I cant wait for my next lesson tomorrow. Until the next fanpost, enjoy reading.

The mat is my church, the ground is my heaven, Jiu-Jitsu is my religion. And once you hit the ground you're in my world. My world is like the ocean, I’m like a shark and most people don't even know how to swim - Draculino
If I live in a castle and you want to kill me, storming the gates is probably not the best idea. You'd do a lot better hitting me in the head with a brick when I come out for the mail. -Ryan Hall
I then rip off my shirt and do like a hulk scream and pose and then say to the kid " don’t you no I would fucking destroy you are you fucking retarded? -Areyouforreal
Tell your parents I told them to do it. Also that Jiu-Jitsu makes people better in essentially all aspects of life.

oh i preached to them like i was possessed by the spirit of god
but they always came back with the same response, lack of cash
Well… any combat sport that has a chill, yet competitive environment will make you a better person.
But BJJ is unusually good at it and Marcelo’s gym is good even for BJJ gyms.
What will help is if benten20 keeps his end of the bargain up – good grades, takes care of business and so on. That’ll make it easier to put up with the bills.

BJJ is $50 more a month through a Renzo Gracie BB. I should do it as well correct?

yes but be careful
BJJ might steal you away from MMA

With Cerebral Palsy
that may be for the best. But if I can do both then I will. I wrestled for 10 years. I love martial arts.

Well
It will be at the same place, with only $50 for BJJ and $110 a month for MMA. Without the MMA classes, BJJ is $75 a month. Plus there is a discount with direct deposit or pre-paying for multiple months, which I will do after a month or two to see if I really like this and get out of the Chevy Venture Swagger Wagon and into something more fuel efficient. Then I can pay for stuff like a gi and other fun things. But at least I have a job to pay for school, food and training, and a job at that which will lead to a career in Sports Administration or Management.

I assume that the extra BJJ is for gi classes?
If so I’d recommend it. Even though I’ve never trained in one, I have people that have told me that training in a gi has improved them a lot, specifically his sub defense.

well right now im only in fundamentals 1
theres no rolling for people in this group but when i move up then for sure just dont embarrass me lol
Some gyms bring you in right away
while others make you wait. It’s a different system at almost every gym you walk into.
For larger gyms with more instructors and more people on the carousel, it makes some sense to keep the rawest beginners focused on drilling and technique until they learn the basics. For smaller gyms, it kind of becomes a trial by fire and that works well with some people (although others prefer the other style).
My gym usually lets first-timers roll right away after going through the warm-ups and drilling. I know my instructor picks the match-ups for a newbie to be experienced people who can control themselves and a spazzy partner at the same time.

^ this is exactly what we do, they get matched up with blue belts or really good white belts that are pretty much blue belts and told to go for what ever they want (no neck cranks, leg locks etc…) and the higher belts control to pace and roll to make sure it is safe. unless you get a power lifter or roid monkey come in and throw people around it works out really well.
Bow and arrow choke
Bow and arrow choke is by far my most favourite back attack together with a body triangle it is a solid 95%-100% tap.
