Josh Barnett thinks he'll get another shot in the UFC despite his history of drug test failures and plenty of past bad blood with Dana White.
With Strikeforce coming to an end (and their heavyweight division coming to an end long before), one of the more interesting fighters in terms of ending up in the UFC is Josh Barnett. Barnett has a long history of issues with the UFC and also has multiple previous failed drug tests on his resume.
When Barnett lost to Daniel Cormier in May, that may have sealed his fate, but Josh doesn't think so, as he told Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour:
"I think it's pretty likely," Barnett said about the prospects of signing with the UFC. "I think it's a good fit for a person like me. I mean, unless you don't want me to go in there and beat all those dudes up and completely throw your rankings out of whack, and change the whole perception of who the best heavyweights in the world are. Now if you don't want that, then yeah, definitely don't bring me over. But if you just want to have the biggest and best collection of heavyweights in the world, then you've got to have me there."
Barnett is an undeniable talent and were it all about simply having the best fighters he'd belong in the UFC. But there's a lot of history with Barnett, both in terms of the steroid tests and the previous wars with Dana White.
While Dana has opened up a bit to the possibility of Josh returning to the UFC recently, only time will tell if he gets the chance to step back into the Octagon.
