Two flyweights who were unable to defeat Demetrious Johnson in the four-man tournament have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 156, as Joseph Benavidez fights Ian McCall.
Another great fight could be headed for Las Vegas on February 2nd, as verbal agreements are in for flyweights Joseph Benavidez (16-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) and Ian McCall (11-3-1 MMA, 0-1-1 UFC). MMA Weekly has the story:
Sources close to the fight confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that verbal agreements are in place for the Feb 2 showdown.
Benavidez had lost the first ever UFC Flyweight Championship at UFC 152, as Demetrious Johnson edged him with a split decision victory. As part of the four-man tournament, Benavidez drew Yasuhiro Urushitani at UFC on FX 2, and Benavidez showed off his KO power by stopping Urushitani seconds into the 2nd round.
McCall was in the other semifinal of the tournament, and fought Demetrious Johnson on the same FX card. He should've had a sudden victory 4th round after a split draw decision on the scorecards, but they erroneously marked the scoring in favor of Johnson by majority decision. This wasn't known until the post-fight press conference, and a rematch took place in June. The outcome was definitively Mighty Mouse's by unanimous decision. He tried to fight John Moraga in August, but an injury forced him to pull out.
