2012 is in the books, but the UFC will be back to promoting cards just 19 days into 2013. And with five cards in six weeks leading into the end of February, there will be plenty of fights to bet on. We've covered most of the big ones on the site as they've popped up, but a flood of new ones popped up over the holiday season and a couple of them are pretty nice. So let's take a look at what's new in the world of UFC betting.
The Michael Bisping vs. Vitor Belfort line has been out for a while now (Belfort is still a slight favorite), but there is now a line available for a heavyweight bout on the card - Ben Rothwell vs. Gabriel Gonzaga:
I like Gonzaga here, especially at that price. GG really only fades when he gets tagged hard, and while Rothwell does have some power (think Brendan Schaub asking the heavens for help), he's going to have a tough time connecting on the big Brazilian. I'd bet on Gonzaga all the way to -180 or so.
There are two new fights to bet on. Alistair Overeem is unsurprisingly a big favorite over Antonio Silva, while on Fitch is a semi-small favorite over Demian Maia:
I wouldn't bet either of these to be honest, though Overeem at -305 has value if you're willing to risk a lot for a small return. I fully expected him to be around -450, and he's as high as -380 on some sites already. The line on Fitch/Maia actually looks about right.
The exciting bantamweight rematch between Urijah Faber and Ivan Menjivar now has a line, and Faber's a huge favorite:
At first glance I'm tempted to throw a flier on Menjivar at that price, but a deeper examination reveals that it's probably a bad bet. Faber's bread and butter are his wrestling and submission defense, and it's going to be very tough for Menjivar to stop him or win a decision. I'd stay away from this.
There are some more new lines for bouts in March, but I think I'll save them for a separate article tomorrow. Until then, happy new year everyone.
