UFC contract negotiations with Eddie Alvarez 'going to get ugly' according to Dana White

Former Bellator Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez became a free agent after knocking out Patricky Freire in October. Two months later, he received an offer from the UFC to move up into MMA's premier league. But the transition isn't going so smoothly according to Dana White.

Going into Bellator 76 Eddie Alvarez's move to the UFC seemed inevitable. It was widely known that his fight against Patricky Freire was the last on the former Lightweight champ's contract. He'd appeared on camera with UFC president Dana during the live broadcast of UFC On Fox 3. Even after BFC 76, where Alvarez knocked out Freire, Dana tweeted, "Let's talk :)" to him.

So, it came as little surprise when Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said he was releasing Alvarez from his exclusive negotiation period in order to pursue other options. Rebney did follow up last week saying that Eddie had received an offer from the UFC and Bellator and Viacom were in the process of reviewing it.

Now Dana White is saying things are starting to get hairy (via MMA Fighting):

"Umm, yeah, I just don't know if I can talk about it," White hesitantly answered yesterday when asked about his attempts to sign the former Bellator lightweight champ.

After a comment from the scrum concluded that the situation must be fine because White would be able to speak if Bellator had re-signed Alvarez, the UFC President carefully responded, "No, that's not what's going on. It's... yeah," trailing off before picking back up. "It's going to get ugly."

No details have come out yet on the terms of the contract, but it looks like Rebney and Viacom have decided to exercise their matching rights. And from White's words here, it doesn't look like the UFC is going to make it easy for them.
