Luke Rockhold may be out, but Lorenz Larkin will still get to fight on the Strikeforce January card as he faces "Jacare" Souza in a middleweight matchup.
Strikeforce continues to do emergency work after they lost their middleweight title fight between Luke Rockhold (champion) and challenger Lorenz Larkin. With Rockhold unable to compete, former champion and submission specialist Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza will step in in a non-title bout. Via MMA Fighting:
Just days after his fight with Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold fell out for a second time -- prompting Larkin to all but call Rockhold a faker on Twitter -- the company announced that Larkin will meet former champion Ronaldo "Jacare" da Souza on the Oklahoma City card.
Jacare is the "former" champion because Luke Rockhold defeated him in 2011, but he's won his last 2 over Bristol Marunde and Derek Brunson, the latter was a 41 second win that marked his first career KO finish.
Larkin has only fought once at middleweight and that was this past July, defeating Robbie Lawler by unanimous decision. He's technically undefeated, but his 1 no-contest was a KO loss to Muhammad Lawal, since overturned following a failed drug test by King Mo.
Strikeforce's final show is set for January 12th in Oklahoma City, and is now headlined by the welterweight title fight between champion Nate Marquardt and challenger Tarec Saffiedine.
