Pride FC Total Elimination 2003: Big Nog vs. Ricco Rodriguez

Watching the old Pride FC fights really is a lot of fun. However there are times when I am left scratching my head and after watching this fight, I am perplexed. Ricco controlled the vast majority of the fight against Nog and by the end of the fight, Bas, Damon Perry (seriously getting rid of Stephen? Smh), and guest announcer Mark Coleman (Pride has really made me a huge fan of Mark and my respect for him has grown immensely) all were sure the judges would give the fight to Ricco. For some crazy reason, a few failed submission attempts turned in the decision in Nog's favor which I actually laughed at as he clearly lost the fight imo. Failing a few omaplata attempts does win you a fight that has your opponent on top of you steadily controlling and ground and pounding you. I get why people have such nostalgia for Pride but at the same time, I really am left watching many of the Pride events with a feeling of relief that they are gone because imo, the way they were run, it would have held the sport back in the post TUF era. Anyway, time to go continue watching that event. Good night all.
