After being disqualified in his purple belt seniors match at the 2012 No Gi Worlds, Matt Lindland took to the official Team Quest Facebook page to post a 2:40 minute video calling the DQ the result of a "phantom punch". Was it really a flop or was there something real to the DQ? Lindland's video can help you decide.
The video was taken from Lindland's Team Quest page (https://www.facebook.com/teamquestpdx?fref=ts).
During the live broadcast by the BudoVideos team, a different angle than Lindland's video was shown with slow motion replay. That footage is not yet released, but it did show that Lindland uppercut Otavio Camargo, his opponent, in the jaw or face with an hand/arm that was free from any grip. The opponent immediately disengaged and medics were called in to deal with a potential blood issue. Upon the departure of the medics, the referee chose to disqualify Lindland for the blow and the match was over.
Since Lindland and Camargo were the only two entrants in the Purple Senior 2 division (for people over 40), Camargo automatically won the division. He would later come in third in the Absolute/Openweight division.
