Following up on Tyrone Spong's incredible debut, two UFC veterans would step in the 10-sided cage. First up, former Bantamweight king Miguel Torres picked up his first fight since being released from the UFC a few months ago. Miguel was let go after winding up on the wrong end of a Michael McDonald first round KO. The other UFC vet is Anthony Johnson, who was released after once again missing weight before losing to Vitor Belfort at UFC 142. Since then, Johnson has picked up 3 consecutive wins and settled into a new weight class at Light Heavyweight.
Marlon Moraes vs. Miguel Torres - The two 135ers stared out with an intense first round. In the first minute, Moraes landed a powerful combo that left Miguel reeling. he was able to recover, however and rolled for a leg lock. The action slowed down toward the end as Miguel found some success with his jab. The second round picked up right where the first left off. Moraes trying hard to land the power punches while Torres frustrated him with the jab. Couple big shots for Moraes but not a lot of action in the second. A lot of leg kicks from Moraes in the third and a lot of jabs from Torres. Moraes took a big risk in the last minute and scored the first takedown of the fight, but Miguel was definitely more effective when it hit the mat. The judges give the split decision to Marlon Moraes 29-28, 28-29, 29-28.
Anthony Johnson vs. D.J. Linderman - DJ came to the cage in a Bane mask, so that was something. Johnson landed a low blow early with an errant low kick. Linderman takes a few minutes before they start back up. They trade strikes for a while before Johnson lands the takedown. He's able to take the back and starts punishing Linderman. Brutal knees to the body against the cage and Johnson says he took a poke to the eye. Herb Dean waves it off, which didn't seem to sit well with Rumble. Anthony Johnson loads up on a huge right hand puts Linderman out late in the first round. I imagine he was picture Kevin Burns.
