Women's MMA star was a guest on the Jim Rome show and talked about coming to the UFC, Georges St. Pierre's comments about women's MMA and sex before a fight.
Strikeforce Bantamweight women's champ Ronda Rousey is on her way to the UFC, possibly to headline a PPV. She was already a media darling when fighting on Showtime so the move up is generating even more media opportunities and Rousey knows how to make the most of it.
She went on the Jim Rome new Showtime program and dropped several provocative comments (quotes via MMA Weekly).
On UFC Welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre's recent comments about not enjoying seeing women punch each other in the face:
"Initially the way that he said it, it reminds me a lot like when you listen to boxing fans that are like 'oh the MMA fighters, they're good athletes, and they're talented and good for them, but I can't stand to see guys humping on the ground like that, it's not a real man's sport, good for them that they make money' that kind of prejudiced against it.
"(GSP) seems to have very much that same kind of prejudice towards women in MMA, and he said it as tactfully as possible, that doesn't make it a tactful thing to say."
On pre-fight sex:
"For girls it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight actually. Not with like everybody, I don't put out like a Craigslist ads or anything, but if I got a steady I'm going to be like 'yo, fight time's coming up'
But she added, "You can't f**k somebody and go fight that day."
Rousey is proving to be a skillful manipulator of the media and knows very well how to take maximum advantage of her sex appeal to market her fighting career without embarrassing herself or discrediting the sport. Not an easy line to walk.
Ironically pre-fight sex is one area where she and GSP are on the same page. He's long been an enthusiastic public advocate of sex and masturbation before fights. I wonder if GSP and Rousey have ever considered training together?
