UFC On Fox 5 Conference Call live thread

Michael Cohen

Getting ready for UFC On Fox 5 on December 8, UFC president Dana White will be hosting a conference call today at 2 pm alongside the show's stars.

UFC On Fox 5 is just around the corner. Without a doubt it's the most stacked card the UFC has put on free television thus far. In the main event Ben Henderson will defend his Lightweight title against Nate Diaz. Henderson won the belt with a decision win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 144 and again defeated Edgar in a controversial decision at UFC 150. Nate is undefeated since returning to 155 lbs. in September 2011. He secured his title shot by being the first ever to finish Jim Miller at UFC On Fox 3.

Today at 2 pm EST (11am PST) the UFC will be hosting a conference call featuring the stars of UFC On Fox 5. In addition to Henderson and Diaz, Light Heavyweights Mauricio Rua and Alexander Gustafsson will also be on the call. Former Lightweight king B.J. Penn will be on the call as well along with his opponent Rory MacDonald who he'll face in a Welterweight bout. UFC president Dana White and co-president of Fox Sports Media Group Eric Shanks will be on the call too.

Bloody Elbow will be bringing you live updates throughout the call.

Dana White:

Has no details on Silva/GSP. Hasn't talked to St. Pierre since 154, because he's on vacation.

TUF is the UFC's AAA league

After NFL on Fox this sunday, Road To The Octagon on Fox. Tells story of Ben Henderson and Nate Diaz.

We have a great relationship with Fox. it's a great group of guys. This is who we want to be with forever.

We're not ready to announce plans for January's TUF 17

TUF and WMMA deals are still being worked on. not going to talk about them until they're done.

On Rory: There's a lot of hype behind. This is a big fight for rory. The one thing you always know about B.J. Penn, you're never going to just got in there and run over him. I think BJ's going to be a big test for [Rory]

GSP delivered again! It was awesome, it was a great weekend for us.

Asked on over/under 500k buys for 154: Haha, it was a great show. The king of PPV is back.

Ben Henderson:

I'm just trying to get the W. I'll take it anyway I can get it.

I just need to continue doing what I'm doing (to get more media attention). It's a process, it doesn't happen overnight. Eventually, if I keep putting the work in it'll all fall into place.

Nate Diaz:

This fight is pretty much the biggest thing going on.

If you're not in the UFC, TUF is a good way to go about it.

Shogun Rua:

Right now, I'm focused on this fight with Gustafsson. Training to be ready for everything.

On turning down Jones at 151: Was off two weeks after Vera fight. Said he needed 6 weeks to prepare.

Alexander Gustafsson: - didn't make it to conference call

Rory MacDonald:

I want to fight more often. Quality or whatever- I don't care. How I've switched things up during my training will help me fight more.

Being more smart with my training. When I feel like I'm breaking down a little bit, I take a day off. Or if I'm not up for sparring I'll go swimming instead. If I'm healthy I can fight on a minute's notice. I just need to be healthy.

Has talked with GSP about his fights with Penn. Not relying on that though.

B.J. Penn:

VADA testing is about BJ's safety in his return fight. He said he's "protecting my own butt".

Just focusing on this fight; I have no plans after this.

I think super fights are great and Dana knows this. They get all the attention; they're what this sport was built on.

I expect a lot out of myself on Dec. 8. Got back together with trainer from Stevenson and Pulver fights. Best thing that happened was this fight got pushed back. I'm ready to go. I'm expecting the best B.J. Penn that I've ever seen.

Fighting is still not a sport for me. Fighting is still a fight for me. I've never been a great athlete that can do any sport, but I could always fight back.

On GSP fighting Silva: That fight is on Georges, but everyone on this fight knows what B.J. would do.

Doesn't like that people don't talk about him when they talk about the greatest fighters any more. He says that's his fault and he wants to change that.

Eric Shanks:

On Fox Sports 1: Not announcing anything in the near future. Still looking at options. The UFC will play huge roll on broadcast and cable channells. UFC role will get bigger as time goes on.

We've got over 100 new advertisers now. Introduced 15 new advertiser categories over last 12 months. This is only going to get bigger. This thing is going to be one of the top sports in the US.

4 events on Fox seems like a good fit.

We'd love to do a UFC On Fox for Fox's super bowl in 2014. Nothing better that we could think of than a big show that week.

We think prelims will be on FX for Fox shows from here on out.
