Former UFC and Strikeforce Champion, Frank Shamrock, recounts a great tale about a street fight he got into at Home Depot
As most of our readers know, I've been doing a series called Street Fighting Diaries. While interviewing fighters, I try to get their best, most funny stories about street fights (or any fights they've had in a non competitive environment), so I can bring them here to you. About 3 years ago, I interviewed Frank Shamrock, who told a story about a brawl he had at Home Depot. I figured that with today being Black Friday, and so many people being out in the pandemonium of the sales rush, this would be a good day to write about it.
There's just one that I can recall. It was my infamous Home Depot fight. That was the last, real street fight I got into. I was living in Los Angeles at the time, in Marina Del Rey, and I had to get a cover for a light switch. I went to Home Depot, and I got my light cover. I waited in line, and right as I got to the front, with just my little light switch cover, this little Hispanic dude cuts in front of me with this huge cart full of stuff. I go, 'Oh, excuse me, but I'm waiting in line here.' He looks at me and says, 'Yeah, that's great, F you.' I was like, 'Oh, that's nice', and asked him again, and he said the same thing. I asked him a third time, because three strikes is usually when you're out. He said the same thing, so I told him, 'I'm going to take you out in the parking lot and I'm going to beat the living shit out of you.'
So we go out, and he's parked in the very front row. There must have been 1000 people parked there that day. So I go up to him with my palms out and said, 'Hey dude, I just can't believe that you would do that. That was so disrespectful.' He tells me, 'Look man, I thought I told you to F off' [laughs]. So I kicked him in the stomach, and when he bent over, I kneed him in the face. When he came back up, I punched him. So he falls on the ground with his hands above his head, and I'm thinking, 'Ok, this guy's done', but he rolls over, pops up, and whips out a 9 inch knife. He jumps up and starts swinging at me. Me, being the skilled martial artist and MMA fighter that I am, I turned and ran [laughs].
I'm running through the parking lot, and he's chasing me and swinging the knife yelling, 'I'll kill you!' Back then, I used to have a convertible Camaro hotrod, but I couldn't go to my car because I realized this guy was going to stab me with this 9 inch knife, so I couldn't jump in a convertible car. So, I'm running and I'm running ... he was a short guy, so he didn't have a good stride. I kind of got some speed on him, but I didn't know where to go, so I ran back into Home Depot, and went out through the garden section. The last I saw of him, he was standing outside the front, with blood coming out of his nose, with that knife in one hand and a cell phone in the other. I drove up right behind him, honked the horn, and said 'I just beat the shit out of you and there's nothing you can do about it', and I hauled ass and got the hell out of there [laughs].
Hopefully, you alpha males will think of this story when you're out and about, because even if you beat the guy up, he might just have an extra surprise waiting for you in the form of a big knife. Happy Black Friday!
